Re: 9/1: Reds visiting the Bucs
With how great he's been sometimes I forget Castillo is a rookie who skipped AAA.
Re: 9/1: Reds visiting the Bucs
It's probably just paranoia but with the Atlanta start and now tonight, I hope there isn't a "Book" getting out on Castillo where you just have to foul enough pitches off until you get something hittable.
Probably nothing, as I said earlier. He's a rookie who skipped AAA so he's bound to have nights like this.

Marte K's
2nd inning finally over after 58 pitches.
Re: 9/1: Reds visiting the Bucs
Pitching was different in the past when we had less information. Film at 11.
Re: 9/1: Reds visiting the Bucs
I'm a fan of Welsh but his whole thing about babying pitchers and injuries is ridiculous. It's not 1970, nobody is going to throw dominate complete games on 100something pitches regularly.

There is a book on every young pitcher as he comes through.
I think on Castillo it's that you don't have to worry about the hook. It's fastballl usually, occasional change up.
As Castillo has said himself, he'll get better as the breaking stuff gets better.

Geno K's to end the inning.
Re: 9/1: Reds visiting the Bucs
Nice slider to K McCutcheon
Hopefully this is the start of him settling down

I have to be honest, though. I preferred the style of the 70's, 80's, and early 90's over the game of today.
Re: 9/1: Reds visiting the Bucs
Back to back K's as Bell strikes out
2 down

I can't really speak to it because I was born in 1989 but I get it, the game definitely has changed into one dominated by the Three True Outcomes as opposed to some action in every at-bat.
Re: 9/1: Reds visiting the Bucs
Freese grounds out after another marathon AB to complete Luis' first 1-2-3 inning.
77 pitches after 3.

There is something inherently satisfying about a pitcher going deep into games and especially completing the whole thing.
I think a big part of it in addition to stricter pitch counts is the fact that pitchers are K'ing batters a lot more now. I've been surprised to look back at some of the stats of pretty good pitchers in the past and outside of some of the true greats, a lot of pitchers just didn't K that many guys back in the day.
I love me some K's but they do rack up a pitch count.
