Re: Reds vs Cubs 8/21/08 (afternoon game)
Annnnd here's C. Baker back to lead off the ninth against Kerry Wood.
He takes ball one.
He fouls off a fastball.
He takes ball two, slider high and outside.
He fouls off another fastball.
He fouls off a curve.
He fouls off another curve.
He grounds to first on a fastball.
Can't really argue with that at-bat too badly. He swung at good pitches.
One out.
Re: Reds vs Cubs 8/21/08 (afternoon game)
Patterson grounds to 1st...
Re: Reds vs Cubs 8/21/08 (afternoon game)
Patterson weakly grounds out. Now Javy will PH for Bako
Re: Reds vs Cubs 8/21/08 (afternoon game)
That sure was a good swing... 2 down
Re: Reds vs Cubs 8/21/08 (afternoon game)
Called strike to Bako, who is also hitting when he shouldn't be. Another one. Fastball's high and outside. Slider's fouled off. Wood puts him away with high cheese.
Two outs.
Re: Reds vs Cubs 8/21/08 (afternoon game)
Corey Mendoza and Paul Sucko... shew
Re: Reds vs Cubs 8/21/08 (afternoon game)
I lied. Bako ks and Javy is now up
Re: Reds vs Cubs 8/21/08 (afternoon game)
Valentin hitting for Lincoln. Wood has given up all of one homer this year, incidentally.
Slider's low, ball one. Curveball on the corner evens it up, then a 96-mph fastball is high. Slider catches the corner to even the count at 2-2. Fastball's outside, full count. Javy then completes the swing-less at-bat by watching a slider for strike three.
Ballgame.
Re: Reds vs Cubs 8/21/08 (afternoon game)
Re: Reds vs Cubs 8/21/08 (afternoon game)
Strike 3......no...more like high and outside.
What a really...pathetic song that CUBS song is...I think even Asia or The Damn Yankees could write better and less chessier songs than that.
Re: Reds vs Cubs 8/21/08 (afternoon game)
You have to laugh when Patterson and Bako come up as the first 2 batters in the 9th. At least if you combine both of their OPS+ for this season they are slightly above league average at 106 (of course this is a joke with a meaning). This offense sucks.

Need to take a hard look at the offense. Two players need to be back: Bruce and Votto. The rest can be moved.

disagree.
Phillips has an OPS+ of ~100 which means he is average offensively. He plays plus defense at 2B and has speed. He is not a superstar but is a solid player.
Dickerson has looked good so far in his audition for the CF job in 2009.
Kep is a nice part time player. He is just not a SS nor does he hit RHP well.
The Reds need a SS & a 3B ( with EE to LF ). Get these and we can live with a weak stick good glove catcher.

Keep Phillips but just show Dusty how his stats say he is 6th or 7th hitter not a cleanup hitter. Just like with Patterson at leadoff, you are putting him in a position to fail more than he succeeds
