I still disagree with the decision to bring Cueto back this season. I don't see where there's anything to gain by bringing him back and risking injury. Between winter ball, spring training, and the regular season he's already thrown plenty of innings.
Agree absolutely, OBM, no way Cueto should be out there.
Cueto developing a slider ...reminds me of Soto doing the same during late 1984 so he could have it for 1985. He began hanging the sliders and went through a long stretch without winning a game that year. Then he started to develop his arm problems. Minimize the slider......throw fastballs an changeups and get him out at 80-90 pitches.
Cueto has had his slider for years now. I have no idea why Chris keeps saying he just learned that pitch this season.
If that's the case.....is it his 3rd pitch and has he only recently started to use it more beacuse he thought the hitters had figured out his other stuff?
Cueto allows a two out double to Lee but K's Ramirez to end the top of the first.
Cueto threw 16 pitches in the first inning - 14 were fastballs. I just don't see the reasoning in bringing him back so he can pump fastball after fastball and get hit. He's got a plus fastball but any major leaguer can hit a fastball, especially when they know it's coming.
A one out single by Kepp but he's erased on a Phillips double play.
GIDP by our 3 hitter who's got a less than .700 OPS against righties. That's lineup construction in the best tradition of Dusty Baker.

-Soto grounds out
-Hoffpauir K's
-DeRosa pops out
13 pitches that inning, 8 fastballs. Mixed it up more that inning.
Votto grounds out...EdE singles.
I like Chris but he should not give out bad info like that.....hope he uses his changeup more and minimizes his sliders. I cannot believe they would let him go out and pitch if he was not completely healthy and able to handle this.
Bruce walks on four pitches. I believe that's seven walks in his last six+ games.
Bruce walks on four pitches and Patterson follows by swinging at the first pitch and grounding out to DeRosa.
I'm concerened about his arm as much as anyone, but if he's healthy, a couple starts should help ease his mind and the team's offseason planning. Maybe when Louisville's playoff run ends and some kids get up to take his place, Cueto will be shut down then.
Bako gets ahead 2-0 and they decide to intentional walk him. Bases loaded with two outs for Cueto.
Cueto flies out to CF on the first pitch.
Reed Johnson grounds out to begin the third inning.
Wow! Dickerson!
Nice play by Dickerson to rob Marquis. Two outs.
Soriano homers on a fastball. He's made Soriano look foolish all season long on sliders.
Hmmmm...Huge bomb by Soriano, single by Theriot. Let's hope Cueto settles down.
Lee grounds out to end the inning. Nice to see Cueto get out of it without further damage.
Lee grounds out to end the inning.
1-0 Cubs after three.
Twice this year Cueto has fired a gem against the Cubs and had no run support in both of those games. Tonight's game is looking similar to those two.
Cubs are starting to hit Cueto now. Second and third and nobody out.
I hate the fact that the crowd is so obviously pro-cubs. I hate it, hate it, hate it.
2-0 Cubs after 3 1/2.
Ramon Ramirez is now scheduled to take Fogg's next start on Tuesday. Let's hope its not just a one game deal. Fogg should be DONE for the season. Let's see what Ramon's got.
EdE singles to RF to begin the 4th.
Edwin with a lead off single to right. Alright, let's get things going!
LOL. That almost looked like those old Cubs highlights from the 80's with the collisions on the popups. :O) Darn. Would've been great to see again.
Bruce popped out.
Patterson walks. Two on and one out by Bako and Cueto are coming up.
Bako lines a single to LF to load the bases for Cueto with one out.
Okay, seriously...what's going on? Is this the twilight zone or something? Patterson showed enough patience to draw a walk and then Bako actually gets a hit. Bases loaded again for Cueto.
Cueto K's looking.
Cueto K's. 2 down with Dickerson coming up. First career grand salami's in back to back games? :O)
Dickerson is ahead 2-0.
