Re: 9-5-20 Reds @ Pirates
Bell's commitment to Brian Goodwin is certainly something.
Re: 9-5-20 Reds @ Pirates
It's a small sample size but Goodwin hasn't impressed me yet.
Re: 9-5-20 Reds @ Pirates
His sticking with Barnhart erks me too
Re: 9-5-20 Reds @ Pirates
This season, Goodwin has a 105 OPS+. Senzel is hurt. Other than Castellanos, he's the best OF they have. When Senzel returns, Goodwin should play LF - possibly platooning with Aquino.
Re: 9-5-20 Reds @ Pirates
What a difference a year does NOT make. After 39 games last season, the Reds were 17-22. This season, same record.
Here are some oddities: In 2019, the team had a +30 run differential. This compares to the -27 run differential that they are sporting in 2020. This team is a relative -57 runs worse than in 2019, and has the same record. Strange game this baseball.
2020 has seen the team score 8 fewer runs than in 2019. This in spite of the three major offensive additions over the winter. The pitching staff has given up 49 more runs compared to last year! Whoa!
2019's winning percentage after 39 games (.436), after 60 games (.467), and after 162 games (.463). Last year's squad finished 28-32 after playing 60 games. Would that be enough to make the expanded playoffs in 2020? Or would that be close but no cigar?
Stay tuned.

Where’s Galvis been? Right handed starter on the mound. Are they playing for next year?

Jose Garcia must be Ozzie Smith with the glove, because he is OPSing under .400, and has an OPS+ of 7. Yes, 7.

.779 OPS in five major league seasons as a pretty good defensive CF/LF. Impresses me.
That’s his record, not some snippets on a TV screen after a few days. With Bell pulling him in and out of games like a third down pass rusher.

He has a lifetime batting average of 253. I wasn't expecting much from him or Bradley.

Garcia has brought welcome speed to a slow infield. As far as the hitting, I sense Williams/Krall/Bell just decided he plays pretty much full time.
It’s kind of an odd decision in a desperate pennant chase. But that’s the sense I get. Even if Galvis is hurt, they still have Farmer if they wanted a more experienced player.

.253 would be the second highest BA on the Reds right now, excluding Tyler Stephenson’s few at bats.
No Red is hitting above .250 other than Winker. If you want to use BA as the correct metric. Team is hitting .215, last in the NL in BA.
Re: 9-5-20 Reds @ Pirates
No issue with Goodwin being in the lineup but I don't get why he plays CF and Shogo is in LF, I think it should be the other way around.
Re: 9-5-20 Reds @ Pirates
Shogo has been Gold Glovin’ it in left field this year.
