Re: 9/10/2015 Reds Birds at Red Legs
This is a learning experience for Lamb. He's definitely having a harder time putting guys away than what he was used in the lower levels and that's leading to some walks. When he figures things out in the bigs I think we're going to see outs instead of all these walks and even some hits when he gives in a little. It's not as simple as just throwing fewer pitches and walking fewer guys. Quick out there helps!

Then we'd never get to see Chapman pitch.

LOL. Just shot diet coke out of my nose on that one. Perfect. :O)

Left-handers are wierd? Barry Zito disagrees.

Answering my own question:
If I imagined God having a team, his starting five would have Pedro in it and Maddux is on the bubble.
Re: 9/10/2015 Reds Birds at Red Legs
2 out walk to the pitcher for BB #6, you could see Lamb frustrated at himself on that one.
Re: 9/10/2015 Reds Birds at Red Legs
BBBBBB
I hope I NEVER type that again as long as I live. Ugh.
The Cards have to be kicking themselves. To have 6 walks in 4 innings and they STILL haven't scored?!? It's kind of impressive the amount of futility on display.

Pedro's best year was 2000...so Maddux.

Think I read the Pirates train starting pitchers to get outs within three pitches.
A starter has to find a way to be reasonably pitch efficient.
Lamb's pitches mount up with the Ks. But he doesn't get easy outs against the other guys.
Twice this game he had potentially easy innings and extended them. That last inning walking the pitcher.
If he's going to start, he has to fix this, or else he'll be in the bullpen. He'd be a good reliever IMO.
Re: 9/10/2015 Reds Birds at Red Legs
Man, I want Lamb to be good. There's so much there, and such a fine line.

I mean, I get what you're saying, but it's 6 starts so far, his first ever taste of the big leagues. I don't see the reason to roll the discard bin up to the stage.

True, but his 97-99 weren't exactly too shabby.

Not unless he fixes the walks. Starter OR reliever.
Prior to tonight I don't recall walks being much of an issue with Lamb. But he's making up for it tonight.
Re: 9/10/2015 Reds Birds at Red Legs
Closer look
ERA+ Maddux 170, Pedro 158
Maddux (I know they don't matter but....) 70 more wins
4 ERA titles to 2 for Maddux
Maddux 5x led innings pitched Pedro 0
Maddux twice as many shutouts
Maddux strikeout to walk leader 3x
and if a tie breaker needed....Maddux 10 gold gloves in the 90's

Pedro's 97-03 were probably the best 7 year run a pitcher not named Koufax has ever had. And even Koufax was only 5 years.
But yeah, I specified 90s, so maybe Maddux going great for the whole decade trumps that.
