And that, as they say...is that.

It actually does suck. Could affect his salary next season (if he's not under contract).

Cardinals have won 83 games in a horrible league. 2005 Padres won 82 games in a better league.

The 84 Royals had a negative run differential and won the division.

The 87 Twins had a -20 run differential and won the Series. They did have the homer hankies however.

It slightly offsets the salary boon he got for dominating the Reds

You called it exactly right tr. It was definitely strike 3; but because of the way the catcher was set up, and that he had to come back for the ball, it made for a tough call.
But it was strike 3.

If the Cards go to the WS...I'll be pissed.
This is like watching the lucky Steelers last season
Re: Cardinals game thread vs MIL 9/30
Cards really need Astros to lose tonight.
Otherwise they have to run Carpenter out there tomorrow to try to clinch.
If Astros lose, they have him for Game 1 vs. SD or LA.

If Shouse had much ability to get out RH hitters, they probably wouldn't have had to intentionally walk Encarnacion. Journeymen LOOGYS are always susceptible to pinch hitters, and Larussa sent Edmonds to the bench with the game on the line. I'm sure that the brewers didn't want to put the winning run on base, but that was (perceived) as better than Shouse facing the RH hitter.
