Why? I don’t see it.

Freeman a LHH infielder, could be an alternative to Strange-Gordon and/or Holder.
Freeman mostly in big leagues last two seasons, so could be a real competitor for utility role.
More experienced player (and slightly younger). Better bat-on-skills. Better defender at his primary position (and probs in the OF corners). More speed. Freeman had one partial season where he drew some walks, but it's not something he'd notably been in the habit of doing prior to that.
According to Nightengale Twitter, this was in response to Schrock getting hurt.

Amir Garrett hopes to pitch in a spring training game next week after his 20-pitch bullpen yesterday went well; Reds traded for utility man Mike Freeman after Max Schrock left Wednesday's game with an injury.
Not at all. What I am saying is that last year we saw two months of data (a normal April and May), so until we can see Antone over a couple of entire 162 game seasons, I just refuse to buy into the hoopla, the way many folks did on one supermonth from Aquino.
I don't deny that Antone has looked impressive. I just need a lot more than 35 major league innings, an uptick on the radar gun, and a few pictures of a spinning baseball to buy that he has gone from average to elite overnight.
The Freeman move adds more LHH competition to backup infield. IMO, a good sign for Blandino, a RHH who may have the other spot locked up. Notably Reds aren’t adding competition on the RHH side, although they may see India as an alternative. Cuthbert is also a factor but Blandino plays more IF positions.

Reds pitcher Wade Miley (left hamstring): “I’m a lot better now… I just thought in that moment no sense to push it any further.”
“Hopefully I’m going to stay on track."

Wade Miley says he feels a lot better today. He felt a sting in the back of his hamstring, so he wanted to be smart about it. Hopes to stay on track for the start of the season
Miley said it was precautionary and that in the past he would've just pitched through it. Good sign that he's feeling better today and hopes to pitch in games again next week.
You wanted cuts, here they are. Plus two additions, Finnegan and India given late invites to Spring Training

Those moves all make sense.
Weren't Finnegan and India already in the Major League Camp?
Technically, they were in the minor league camp. They were appearing in Major League spring training games, but were minor leaguers, without an official invite to the major league camp.
The difference is where their lockers are, before in the minor league complex, now in the major league complex, and benefits like meal money, access to the major league complex facilites, etc..

David Bell said the move to invite Finnegan and India to big-league camp is symbolic, in a way, to say they're officially competing for a spot on the big-league roster
Bell said Finnegan is "on the brink of being back in the big leagues"
Very pleased about Finnegan and India.

David Bell says Max Schrock has “much better news than I feared.”
There’s a possibility he can play in the next 7-10 days “on the quick side."

David Bell said the #Reds want Jonathan India to play regularly once he reaches the big leagues. "We all see that he could add a lot to this team."
Finnegan has a legit shot to make this team out of camp. It’s a great redemption story and I am rooting for him.
They will option India to AAA but he looks the part of a good utility man already. The DH would help him get starts, especially vs. LHP. They could DH Geno or Castellanos here and there and get India in all over the field.
