Being a good pitch framer is a game changer with umps like this. Wow.
Re: 7-24-21 Reds vs Cardinals 7:10pm
I will say that the Reds are not a boring team.

It's almost impossible for him to pull a ball with his swing. It's ok to pull a pitch on the inner 3rd. With him bailing out, he'll hit it weakly to the left side.

Like I said disagree if you want. Not how baseball is played anymore. Heck going back at least 10 years now 100 pitches has pretty much been the limit. And after a 60 schedule last year I am surprised it is not 80.

I don't see asking for 4 outs as that much of a stretch fro asking for 3 outs... especilly after watching Brach getting hammered. I'm happy Doolittle did the job, but I just think, if he wouldn't use him in the 9th, why use him in the 8th with the bases loaded. I'd say use your best pitchers in the highest leverage situations.

I'm living in the theoretical, but tonite was a classic example of the pitch count not telling the whole story. Overexposed bullpens are rampant right now.

Baseball update: Luis Castillo is one of the most coveted pitchers on the @MLB trade market, with a 1.76 ERA over his past 9 starts. For now, however, a trade remains unlikely. Castillo, 28, isn't eligible for free agency until after the 2023 season.

That "100" spooks the hell out of guys like Bell who don't realize it's a meaningless figure.

but is it a valid strategy for all? Automaton managers just do it because that is the current accepted practice, thoughtlessly.

I actually think Hembree in the 8th to get that out would have been a good move. But who pitches the 9th? Because no way was Bell going to let Hembree get warm in the 8th. Sit down get cold and come back out in the 9th. Relievers are much different than starters. Most don't do well when they have pitched one inning most of there career's then are asked to pitch more than one inning. It all boils down to this pen sucks and it needs help. Can't burn out only reliable arm.
