Re: The Connor Overton Appreciation Thread
overton was excellent at AAA buffalo last year (and was doing well at louisville before his call-up this year). not saying what he's doing is sustainable, but my point is he has been pitching well overall since the beginning of 2021. that's a good sign.
Re: The Connor Overton Appreciation Thread
Overton will be 29 in July. Ride that horse until it gives out, but don't write him into the plan for 2023. He's certainly bypassed SanMartin and Vlad on the depth chart and with Lodolo out, and potential trades later in the year, my guess is he'll stick around all season. The hope would be he becomes the new Dan Straily who gets dealt for the new Luis Castillo.

I kind of doubt he makes it through the year. And I really doubt he nets a future major-leaguer via trade. Straily was 27 and had a couple of seasons in a major league rotation with a sub-4 ERA. Overton is 28 and has started 6 games.

I agree. The point is, if you can get something, deal him, don't plan on him for next year just because he's cheap. I thought they should have flipped Vlad this winter but they believed the smoke and mirrors of 2021 and wrote him into the plan.

NM. Late to the discussion

And every other team would be grateful for that.
Re: The Connor Overton Appreciation Thread
I want him to be the closer so he’ll be Game Overton.
Re: The Connor Overton Appreciation Thread
Overton has been a godsend. He's definitely moved up the depth chart and I'd keep him in the rotation until he has a Vlad like correction. He's starting to get me wondering if he could be our depth/swing guy going forward. I like him much more than Reiver or Vlad now.

David Bell says Vladimir Gutierrez is heading to the bullpen. Connor Overton will stay in the rotation.

If he is so bad (and it seems he may be) I wouldn't really stress about what he could have got in a trade. He showed some promise of being a bottom of the rotation pitcher. That has some potential value while he is cheap. Probably more than anybody would give up for him.
