Re: Be the last person to post on this thread
Well, I'm headed out on a two day business trip. I imagine there will be at least 47 pages cranked out before I'm back. Sigh.
I hope someone will do a recap every night, 'cause there's no way I can read all that stuff.
Remember the tortoise and the hare, people.
We're gonna easily dwarf all rival threads soon.

Re: Be the last person to post on this thread
Curses!
So my original plan was to get up real early, like I always do, and just vulture an award, but having failed to sleep through the first half of the night, when I finally managed some shut-eye and my alarm clock started going off, I decided to reset it for 6:30am.
I am not strong.
So congratulations, Rosie.

I am very seriously considering calling off work right now.

Yes, beer, but also sometimes whisky and scotch.
And I ordered a bottle of Chartreuse last night.

Re: Be the last person to post on this thread
Do you have to pay to wear jeans on Friday?
We have to agree to a $3.00 deduction each paycheck to do it. With the money, the company makes food baskets for Thanksgiving and buys toys for Christmas that we give to a local charity. So it's a good deal. Just thought it was wierd when they first asked me.
-
Re: Be the last person to post on this thread
I wear jeans to the office every day for free, unless I have an off-site meeting or something.
When I worked for Nationwide Insurance, we had to pay a $5 donation to wear jeans on Fridays, which went into the coffers of the United Way. I don't think it's all that uncommon of a practice.
-
Re: Be the last person to post on this thread
Usually our boss picks up the tab if we are "charged" $1 to wear jeans for a charity.
-
Re: Be the last person to post on this thread
I've never heard of such a thing.
I wear jeans every day. I work in a lab. Even with a lab coat, you tend to get little acid burns in your clothes after awhile.

zombie, son, be careful with that stuff. I used to save Joy Division for when I was in a particularly black mood. Like divorce, losing my job, my dog died, the mailman was late, etc. It would certainly exacerbate my not-so-sunny outlook.
I cleaned out my cassette collection a couple years ago (Joy Division was like what, 1980?). I saw the Joy Division cassettes, picked them up with thumb and forefinger like nuclear waste, and said good riddance.

Re: Be the last person to post on this thread
When the routine bites hard
and ambitions are low
And the resentment rides high
but emotions won't grow
And we're changing our ways,
taking different roads
Then love, love will tear us apart
again
Why is the bedroom so cold
Turned away on your side?
Is my timing that flawed,
our respect run so dry?
Yet there's still this appeal
That we've kept through
our lives
Love, love will tear us apart again
Do you cry out in your sleep
All my failings expose?
Get a taste in my mouth
As desperation takes hold
Is it something so good
Just can't function no more?
When love, love will tear us apart
again
I love Joy Division's happier, danceable child New Order. Been my favorite band since the mid-80's when I stumbled upon Perfect Kiss

My road trip was just purely a walk on the wild side, fueled by a bottle of water and Tic-Tacs.
I am such a wild and crazy man.

No pictures? How are we going to believe you won best costume if there are no pictures to prove it?

Did you take the picture of the over sign yourself. If so, you're really a tech wiz to take the picture and get it on this thread. You ought to find a job in the computer industry

I have a completely different take. I started listening to Joy Division back in the heady days of late youth, and it calls up memories of cruising with my friends in the "sin bin" (Mike-O's ancient rattletrap station wagon) down Columbus highways at 3 in the morning on weeknights when the rest of the world was asleep, talking, laughing, going to the RHPS, scraping up change from the floorboards to buy hash browns at Waffle House, etcetera etcetera. We were all in that "it's so cool to be sad" phase, which looking back upon it, is pretty ironic, because we were all far happier back then.
It's a little melancholy, reminiscing about the good times now gone, but no longer does the music of that time get me all "I hate myself and want to die."

Nice walk today, only so humid I felt like a sweat trap halfway through ;)
Not fun to walk on garbage day, smelly garbage cans on the sidewalks
