Re: Reds vs D-Backs 9/13/08 (no Bako or Patterson)
Owings was on the post game. He was very gracious and said nice things about the AZ fans, and said he can't wait to get to Cincinnati and the Reds great traditions...
Seems like a nice guy. And hitting like that, I can see why the guy won a silver slugger award last year.

Well Gameday was wrong... no way in hell was that a strike. That buckled well below the knees.

I wonder if Kirk Gibson would have put up with the shaving cream stuff?
Dusty purposely blew the game early so he could redeem himself later. That's our Dusty. :D (Laugh Track included)

Yeah, the replay showed Hanigan caught it down low, but when it crossed the front edge of plate it was still knee high

Maybe putting pressure on the other team's defense created the bad break? We'll never know
If Richar had gone, and the ball hadn't hitthe cather's shin guard, he would have been a dead duck.
With zero outs, you only go if your chances are pretty good (say 75% at least.) The chance of the next hitter driving you in with a base hit or an out is probably about 60%. Even if he gets out, your chances are still about 30% with two outs to score a run.
That adds up to about a 72% of still scoring if you don't run.

Only if he was the one administering it

Ah, snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. A brilliant man can't be held down, dude. :)
As for the shaving cream stuff, that's the pleasure of a young team and in days past, the veterans were the guys who administrated the "cream." Tonight shows that there is some soul to this team--soemthing missing in the last few years. I like the Jocketty acqisitions so far.

Tell me it isn't so.

I'm not so sure, the ball came in on the 1st base side of home plate, the catcher took his eye off it because he needed to catch it and bring it back
(all of which Berry had no way of knowing when he called Richar to hold up, of course)
hindsight is 20/20, with nothing to lose but a meaningless game, I would've sent him and made the defense execute

As Cleon Jones once said to a reporter who told him he thought Jones looked out on a base Jones felt he'd stolen...
"I'm glad you ain't no ump"
Re: Reds vs D-Backs 9/13/08 (no Bako or Patterson)
Cueto vs. Scherzer should be another good game to watch.

No offense man, but I'm glad you're not the 3rd base coach. Mark Berry is paid to know that Justin Upton has a rocket launcher for an arm, and giving away an out in that situation just 'cuz would've been silly.

FSN showed a replay of that pitch from the side and you can clearly see that when it crosses the plate, it was at the knees. In fact, judging from that angle and the game-time angle from the outfield, Gameday looked to have it's location dead on.

What difference does it make if the game is "meaningless"?
Are you admitting that sending him was against the odds, but who cares?
Holding him or sending him is based on what you think the odds of him scoring are, and the odds of him scoring (eventually) if you don't send him. But sending him because the game is meaningless is silly. It certainly wasn't a meaningless game to the Diamondbacks and the Dodgers.
Re: Reds vs D-Backs 9/13/08 (no Bako or Patterson)
There is no such thing as a meaningless game. The Diamondbacks are in the thick of the hunt in the NL West. And even if neither club were in contention, players owe it to themselves and to the fans who pay their hard-earned money to give their best effort out there. But I forgot--we laugh at and make fun of things like "integrity" and "playing the game the right way" around here.

Sorry...but that just reminded me of this:
