Valentin walks. First and second two outs for Hairston.

Hairston singles to score Patterson. 5-4 now. Castillo advances to third. Here comes Keppinger to do one of his famous pop outs or ground outs.

If only the Reds had capitalized on one of those lead off doubles.
Re: September 18th game thread Reds-Cards
Jason Motte is the new Cardinals pitcher.

Re: September 18th game thread Reds-Cards
Keppinger fouls off a high pitch. 0-1. Called strike two. Ball up and away. 1-2. Ball low. 2-2. Ball up and away. 3-2. Keppinger weakly flies out. The Reds have three black holes in the lineup when Patterson, Bako, and Keppinger play.
Re: September 18th game thread Reds-Cards
Finding a new shortstop has got to be the number one goal in the offseason for Walt Jocketty. All Keppinger can do is hit weak pop outs/ground outs and watch routine groundballs roll into the outfield. He's a solid sub and that's it.

He's lost something since the injury. Either that or we're seeing why he's never stuck anywhere

i wouldn't go so far as to say he's awful, he's just getting too much playing time...he's simply not an everyday player...unfortunately, the reds have too many players like him...

I think it's the latter. There is a reason why most players never stick with one club. There is also a reason some don't make it. Kepp was exposed with everyday play.
