Re: Reds vs Pirates 5/12/10 Game Thread
Someone finally got through to this pitching staff about how much easier it can be to pitch if you just throw strikes, trust your stuff, and let your defense do some work. If it was Bryan Price (which would make sense), can we keep him for a VERY long time?! :D

Re: Reds vs Pirates 5/12/10 Game Thread
Bruce K's looking on a pitch that was low.

There are maybe 20, 25 people in the stands.

I wonder what the splits are for Drew Stubbs in the leadoff slot and OUT of the leadoff slot. I'd guess they're pretty striking.

Just incredible efficiency.
Hmmmmm, throwing strikes = outs

I'm thinking Cueto's game last night has had a profound impact on Homer, particularly if he was charting pitches. Maybe something clicked.
Then again, I have to temper my enthusiasm by remembering that these are the Pirates. That lineup would have difficulty intimidating your local wiffle ball junkie.

Well, it may be a complete waste of $15.00, but I just bought the domain name rallyonion.com.

That's the most important thing!
This would be a great thing for the bullpen. Especially Rhodes,Massett and Cordero. It seems like they have been in every game this season.

I think that's how Mark Cuban and Richard Branson got their starts. ;)

Re: Reds vs Pirates 5/12/10 Game Thread
Ryan pounds one, but Milledge runs it down to end the inning. 5-0 Reds middle of 6th

Nice!!
It's a true rally onion, it came into my possession literally right before the Reds exploded at the end of Saturday's game. I'm knocking the crap out of my wooden table over here.

I agree that a rested bullpen is a good thing but how much rest is too much?
-
Re: Reds vs Pirates 5/12/10 Game Thread
52 pitches, 45 strikes. Oh, and one pitch one out...again.
-
Re: Reds vs Pirates 5/12/10 Game Thread
52 pitches, 45 strikes for Bailey.

Well, if the starters keep throwing out complete game shutouts...who cares? :O)

I don't think I have ever seen a pitch ratio like this. That's amazing!

Re: Reds vs Pirates 5/12/10 Game Thread
Wow. Another 1-2-3 from Homer. 9 pitch inning
50 strikes, 10 balls now. Simply amazing. I'm sure some will point to it being the Pirates, but you'll have success against any team throwing that type of ratio IMO.

I can't watch the game from work, so can anyone tell me if the Pirates are actually making it to the bench before having to go back out onto the field?
-
Re: Reds vs Pirates 5/12/10 Game Thread
Reds pitching fever, catch it:
17 consecutive scoreless innings
38 of the last 42 innings have been scoreless - only more than 1 run in an inning once in the last 42 innings
-
Re: Reds vs Pirates 5/12/10 Game Thread
Bailey looks fantastic. He's working pretty quickly.

They are just leaving their gloves in the field like in the old days. ;)

Re: Reds vs Pirates 5/12/10 Game Thread
Meek pitching. Bailey quickly K's to lower his BA to .300.

Re: Reds vs Pirates 5/12/10 Game Thread
I'm thinking (hoping) that perhaps what Bryan Price is preaching is finally starting to get through to some of these guys on the rotation. We'll see over time, but so far Bailey's pitching fantastic today after Cueto's dominant performance last night.

On a list of things to worry about, I am happy to "worry" about the bullpen being too rested.

It might be fun. Not to move off topic on the Game Thread, but PM me if you want. I just tweeted about it with a link to the picture. Maybe we can get BW3 as a sponsor!

Me too. I would much rather have an under used bullpen than an over used one.

Re: Reds vs Pirates 5/12/10 Game Thread
I wonder how Bailey's pitching today would hold up against a real offense. The gameday looks like a bunch of low 90's fastballs that the Pirates aren't doing anything with.
