    Re: The Mather Effect

Reds with Mather in 2013- .659 win %
    2013- post-Mather release- down .143%
    2014- down again to .469%
    2015- down again- .395%
2016- up! - .423% and 3 games over .500. someone with the Reds clearly performed an exorcism over the All-Star break. Perhaps they have shaken the Ghost of the Matherino.

    57- 4th
    58- 4th
    59- 5th
    60- 6th
    61- 1st- lost in series
    62- 3rd despite 98 wins!
    63- 5th

The show "New Leave it to Beaver" ran from 1983 to 1989." The Reds had arguably less success during this period, never once winning 90 games.
    83- 6th
    84- 5th
    85- 2nd
    86- 2nd
    87- 2nd
    88- 2nd

There appears no correlation between the successful periods in Jerry Mathers career and success for the Reds.
My favorite episode of Leave It To The Beaver was when his Mother said "Ward, I think you were a little hard on the beaver last night"....

The Reds can overcome this. It's simply mind over Mather

I liked the story arc where he bought a machete and became a serial killer known as The Cleaver.

But that may have been an Ambush Bug comic.

FWIW Mather's playing days appear to be behind him now and he is managing a Rookie League team in the Arizona D'Backs system.

You Mathers have ruined baseball. Get your head out of the numbers and go watch a game sometime.

Looks like Crash Davis is no longer managing in Visalia.

"He's one of the best around," Morozowski said of Mather. "He's definitely a player's coach. He takes into consideration our opinions and our feedback. He's just not ordering you around and, you know, kind of making you do everything by his book. He's very, very open to confrontations, and if you have a feeling about this or feelings about that, his door is always open. He's a great manager who is going to be a great fit for us."

    They need a rainout?

After 6 long years, the Reds finally make things right with the universe.

Joe Mather, who was the Diamondbacks' field and hitting coordinator, will be the Reds' assistant Major League hitting coach. He replaced Donnie Ecker, who served in that role last year and was hired by the Giants as the big-league hitting coach
