Cotton was nothing compared to his "there be witches" father, Increase.

It might seem easy to feel sympathetic for the plight of the beaver until you remember what it does to wood.

Well I'll be dam*ed! Browsing at the updates, I never remembered posting in this thread. As I checked back, the Giants game I attended (but didn't really want to go) was Bailey's no-hitter on July 2nd!

    That's really cool!!
Benzinger backing and calling! And the 1990 world championship series belongs to the Cincinnati Reds!

From the #reds ... named Joe Mather assistant hitting coach and Geoff Head senior director of health and performance.

Director of Health and Performance. DW started that soon after taking over as GM.

    Too much Mather Blather?

    Cotton Mather:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cotton_Mather
Cotton Mather /ˈmæðər/ FRS (February 12, 1663 – February 13, 1728; A.B. 1678, Harvard College; A.M. 1681, honorary doctorate 1710, University of Glasgow) was a New England Puritan minister, prolific author, and pamphleteer. He left a scientific legacy due to his hybridization experiments and his promotion of inoculation for disease prevention, though he is most frequently remembered today for his involvement in the Salem witch trials.

    57- 4th
    58- 4th
    59- 5th
    60- 6th
    61- 1st- lost in series
    62- 3rd despite 98 wins!
    63- 5th

The show "New Leave it to Beaver" ran from 1983 to 1989." The Reds had arguably less success during this period, never once winning 90 games.
    83- 6th
    84- 5th
    85- 2nd
    86- 2nd
    87- 2nd
    88- 2nd
    89- 5th

There appears no correlation between the successful periods in Jerry Mathers career and success for the Reds.
Yeah, BUT...when I was a kid I looked a LOT like Jerry Mathers and would often hear other kids, even in stores say things like, "Hey LOOK! It's Leave It To Beaver!" The BRM was born in my youth so there is that.. As adults there is no resemblance whatsoever..

    Re: The Mather Effect

Seeing his name in another thread reminded me of Mather rejoining the organization last season. Reds, of course, returned to the playoffs for the first time since the year they had Mather on the squad for part of the season.. Clearly the Mather Effect was reversed.

    Mather matters.
