And it's Rafa in 4 sets. He'll meet Zverev in the semis. He is playing a heavy draw. Other half of the bracket is wide open.

I'm so used to crowds rooting for a 5th set that it was jarring to hear the Rafa chants in the tiebreak. Not that it's new, but Novak is going to get rough treatment the rest of his career I think.

Coco has a tall order on Saturday. Swiatek looks close to unbeatable on clay, so she’s probably not to win. But I think she’s got a real chance. Going to be a fun final.

Bummer that Zverev had to retire. Puts Rafa into his 14th French Open final.

Nervy first few games for Coco. Hopefully she can pull herself together in the 2nd set.

Swiatek is just too good on clay. I wouldn’t be surprised if she owns this event over the next 5 years.

Thrilled to see Rafa win today and put another major between himself and Djokovic.

She looks unbeatable on any surface. That forehand is SICK.

Glad to see Rafa win on the men's side. The story with Ruud from the quarter-finals is bizarre, either he's being pretty odd or Rune is, not sure what to believe -

...and his foot was numb before the start of the match from an injection (which he has been doing to get through these, but the injections wear off as the match goes deeper).

Ruud ran into a lawnmower today. This is Rafa's 7th straight set win in the French Open finals. No one's ever even taken him to a 5th set in a final. Everyone shows up with a plan. Surely they all believe in themselves. Then you run into Rafa and he's like a cyborg, and you realize you've got no chance. He's done it to Federer and Djokovic too. Ruud shouldn't get too down on himself. It's just that Ruud's a human.

Serena Williams gets wild-card entry for Wimbledon singles

AP) — Serena Williams is going to play at Wimbledon, after all. The All England Club announced Tuesday that Williams was awarded a wild-card entry for singles, marking her return to Grand Slam action after a year away.

The owner of a professional era-record 23 Grand Slam singles trophies, and as big a star as tennis ever has seen, Williams is going to tune up by playing doubles at a smaller grass-court event first, teaming with Ons Jabeur at Eastbourne, England, next week.

Main-draw play at Wimbledon begins June 27.

Williams has not competed anywhere since getting injured during the first set of her first-round match at the All England Club in 2021. And her name did not appear on the women’s singles entry list released by the grass-court Grand Slam tournament earlier this month.

But Williams was among a half-dozen women given a spot in the singles draw Tuesday, along with five British players: Katie Boulter, Jodie Burrage, Sonay Kartal, Yuriko Miyazaki and Katie Swan.

Two other women will get invitations “in due course,” the All England Club said.

Brutal Wimbledon for seeded players. Only three of the top 10 remain on the men's side: Djokovic, Rafa and Cam Norrie. On the women's side it's only #3 seed Ons Jabeur and #4 seed Paula Badosa. The thing we're not seeing from younger players is consistency. They're on one tournament and off another.
