    Reds Radio Hot Stove League

I remember someone used to do a play by play of these. For those interested in hearing Marty, Thom, Kelch and others talk for an hour each week, here is a link.

The show usually airs Tuesdays at 6 PM EST. However, it is on tonight 11/13/13, because of basketball last night.

Re: Reds Radio Hot Stove League

Tonight was hosted by Marty and Kelch. After pleasantries, they begin talking about Redsfest.

They are joined by Phil Castellini to discuss the event. Someone may have created a thread where you can find all these details that they are talking over.

For what it's worth, Castellini did name Phillips when talking over the players at the event. He said it in one breath along with Votto, Bruce, Frazier, and others.

They are now talking about the rumors of Tulo going to the Cardinals, and how Colorado's people are shooting it down.

Also talking about Cardinals/Yankees discussing Freese. Also Yankees interest in Choo.

    Talking Twins interest in Arroyo.

    Now taking calls...

Ted asks about next Commish of baseball. Ted thinks it should be Joe Morgan. Marty thinks he would be great, but that he doubts he is interested.

Jason wants to know about Chapman starting. Kelch thinks Chapman should start. Marty used to say that Chapman should close, but now he thinks Chapman should start now since the way the season ended without him being used.

Next caller asks about Choo/Arroyo. Marty says Arroyo is gone for sure, but Jocketty is going to do everything he can to keep Choo. He doubts it happens with the Yankees involved.

Next caller asks about the caravan route. Marty says he hasn't seen the schedule yet.

Harry now whats to know about BP being traded. Kelch just mentions the Braves/Yankees rumors, saying he doesn't know for sure what will happen, while Marty says nothing.

Brett wants to know the chances of Parker and Concepcion getting into the Hall of Fame. Marty says Concepcion has a better chance, but he thinks it's a long shot for either.

Mike says trading BP would be a big mistake, can't get a good return. Kelch says he thinks the injury hurt the numbers some. Also moving around the lineup. Marty doubts the return would be great, says he thinks Hamilton at 2B would be doable. Says Phillips has been greatest he has seen with fans though.

Next caller wants Cueto, Chapman, and BP traded. Marty says leave the pitching alone, and get a another bat. Thinks it would be risky to trade pitching at this point.

Nate asks about if Price being a pitching coach can be a good manager. They think he can do the job.

Next caller complains about hitting in the clutch...says Votto was down this season. Wants to trade for Stanton. Marty says Stanton is unavailable, and the new hitting coach has his work cut out for him.

Then a caller says Jocketty is on the hot seat now, while Marty brushes that off, and says he thinks Walt will retire first, or move into a different role, because he has surrounded himself with good baseball minds to take over for him.

That was all for this week.

That what made them stand out to me, was how great and funny they were.

Hopefully Chip will have the time or willingness to do some this offseason.

Marty actually makes sense here. He must have not been cranky pants for that show. At least he didn't say they should sign Steve Finley 7 years past his peak or something.

Thank you, Pepper. Sounds like a better class of callers than usual. I have missed the recaps greatly.

Re: Reds Radio Hot Stove League

I've noticed the Hot Stove shows usually start out with pretty serious callers and as the off season goes on, and the same topics are covered a dozen times, they let the crazier and dumber callers through to keep things interesting.

Thom instead of Marty tonight I guess. He said JJ Hoover will be on shortly. Latos will be on next week.

    From Hoover:

--He's living and doing offseason workouts in the area (NKy) for first time ever. Said he thinks he may report next season in the best shape of his life, and credits Reds staffers for that.

--Says he talks to his dad after every game. Says his dad has basically been his pitching coach his whole life and can diagnose flaws in his mechanics immediately.

--Thom asked him what happened down the stretch with the team. Hoover said the Reds didn't have the fire other teams had, and they need to get that fire.

    More from Hoover:

--Says closing in Triple A was awesome. It's the most fun you can have as a reliever.

--Says the 9th inning is a "different animal." It's way different than the others with much more pressure.

--Says Corky Miller would be a great bullpen coach, or coach in general. He says he never had to think about pitching when Corky was catching him because, "Corky knows so much about the game."
