    "Meh"

I'm fully open to the possibility that I'm oversensitive here, but I cannot count the number of times I've seen a long, carefully-worded and argued post followed by a terse, two or three-sentence response that begins with "Meh."

At present, I find this to be one of the more disrespectful ways of stating an opinion on the board, especially when it is not followed by an equally careful counter-point. Wondering what the mods and other posters others on the board think about it.

I'll agree that the scenario you described is a pretty rude way to respond to someone who put a lot of thought in to their post (even if the responder completely disagrees with it), but we (the moderating staff) would never take action for that in and of itself.

Thanks. Understood. I didn't necessarily mean you would need to respond -- I just wanted to take people's temperature on this.

I'm actually a big fan of 'meh', though I can't say I have ever used it as an entire post.

I use it as a transition to say "I can see where you are coming from, but I don't think your argument holds much weight", then proceed to write a long-winded explanation for why I feel that way. Typing in those three little letters at the start of my post (1) is much easier than typing 17 words and (2) is cathartic and allows me to purge my emotions before making a clinical argument.

To my mind, that's a much better use of the expression. Others have not been that charitable.

Changing the subject slightly- "Meh" is one pet peeve; another is that every Reds transaction, no matter how trivial, is greeted by at least one snarky reply in the nature of, "well, let's go ahead and print World Series tickets- this move locks up the pennant". Any tiny trace of humor this once contained has long since been killed by its constant repetition. Getting to be like nails on a chalkboard to me...
