Yeah, I thought it was the move to make. It's a desperate time for the away team. That run doesn't matter and set up a force at every base and the DP. That's enhanced by the 6 man infield with Craig in.

But Heisey threw a wrench in all that.

I seem to remember hearing he was 22 and how amazing it is that the Cardinals have been able to put together such a young, amazing staff.

I also believe Carlos Martinez is 24. I could be wrong though...

As I was watching last night, frustrated that the Reds were generating no offense, I realized that neither were the Cards, and it is easy to project that they have an above average offense and a lot of big bats. Then, I was able to enjoy watching the pitchers from both teams be so dominant.

And just as big a win to me was that Molina had multiple chances to burn the good guys yet again and failed, failed, and failed.

Why? Puts the force in place at every base. There were no outs. Pretty much a no-brainer IMO.

Forces your pitcher to throw strikes though too, thus the margin for error gets larger too. But it's already real large there. It's like hitting on a 14 if the dealer has a 5 showing, you gave a good idea what might happen and you decide to be proactive in getting to a resolution that favors you, because the current one sure does not.

There was one out, but yeah I think it's pretty much a no brainer because you set up a situation where a ground ball potentially gets you out of the inning.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find an MLB manager that wouldn't have loaded the bases in that situation.

Had to walk Pena to set up force out at home. If you pitch to Pena, there's a 100 ways you can lose even if he makes an out. And 2 outs with Heisey batting 2nd & 3rd is really not that much better than 1 out with the bases loaded.

If he really wanted to be Larussaesque mad genius, he'd throw a pitch, not in the strike zone, but not intentionally walking Pena, to see if Price would bat Heisey for Pena with a 1-0 count. Then go ahead and walk Heisey.

I think you mean if the dealer has a 10 showing. If the dealer has 5 showing and you hit on a 14, everyone at the table has the right to beat you senseless.

This does not look like your father's Chris Heisey. He's shortened his swing and looks totally different in the batter's box. I think that had a lot to do with his being able to get around on that 96 mph FB high and inside

I'd be thrilled with 92 wins myself. This team looks to me like "they are who we thought they were"...a team with good pitching and poor hitting. In order to win 92 games their hitting will have to pick it up (as Dusty would say) bigtime

set up a potential inning ending double play. Just about every manager would've done the same thing.
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob

In case no one noticed, a bunt set up the winning run last night. Dusty is smiling on his boat.

That's a case where a bunt was definitely indicated and it's something that the batter does well. I doubt anyone had a hard time with that call
