    Uncle!!!

Louisville goes down in flames in game one of a twin-bill, losing 19-3.

The good news is that the Bats had three times as many home runs as Columbus.
The bad news is everything else.

Matt Maloney took the mound, hopefully for the last time as a Bat, and gave up 15 hits and ten earned runs in just four innings. In 6.2 innings covering two starts, Maloney has allowed 25 base hits. Ouch! He has yet to walk a batter, so there is that.

Felix Perez, hoping to show Reds' management another facet of his game, came on to pitch the last inning. He retired two batters, allowed six hits and walked five before being pulled mercifully. He was charged with nine earned runs and his ERA stands at a jaw-dropping 121.50. Hernan Iribarren had to come on and get the final out.

Where is Corky? Not on the Bats' roster at this time.

Bourgeois, Diaz and Anderson clouted solo homers for Louisville.

Felix Perez's day was not a total loss. He singled, doubled and threw a runner out at the plate.

“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

    Thanks.

Dominican Summer League starts today. Cincinnati has two entries - the DSL Reds and the DSL Rojos. Always some interesting stories from out of the Dominican Republic.

The DSL Reds (4-2) and DSL Rojos (3-1) both won their openers. Most interesting, perhaps, is that their best players from last year don't show up on either roster. Presumably, that means they'll be coming stateside to play for, in most if not all cases, the AZL Reds.

    I'm referring to:

infielders Hector Vargas and Miguel Mendez
    outfielder Jose Siri
and pitchers Luis Gonzalez, Jacob Constante, Junior Arias and Jose De Sousa.

It appears that the best returning hitters are Francis Azcona, Diohanky Mejia, Raul Wallace and Michael Beltre.

The starting pitchers today were Franklin Montilla and Jose Salas. Both went four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit.

Is Luis Tabata on one of those rosters? He was the best of last years' international signees if I recall.

I don't know about his stuff tonight, but Daniel Corcino must have some moxie going. In the 7th inning, he's working on a 10-hit shutout. Pensacola leads 8-0.

Maybe he'll start in the AZL with Constante. I believe like Constante, he was a bit older and Arizona may be more appropriate.

Dayton nearly blew a 7-0 lead, holding on 7-6. Jon Matthews and Nick Benedetto each had a pair of hits. Travieso had a shutout going through five, but ended up being charged with 4 runs in 6.1 IP. Scott Brattvet pitched a scoreless ninth for the save.

Wahoos lead 8-0 in the 8th. Thanks to a solid start from Corcino, who was able to avoid damage, despite plenty of baserunners, and Home Runs from Mattair and Silverio.
