Monday, June 16, 2014, Minor League Updates:

    Limited schedule tonight.

Louisville Bats are hosting the Durham Bulls.

David Holmberg is on the mound tonight, and stringing some zeroes. So far for Holmberg: 6IP 6H 0R 0ER 2BB 6K.
Louisville hitters have managed just three base hits in five innings - singles by Barnhart and Duncan, along with a double by Thomas Neal.

This song is dedicated to David Holmberg. And I really love this song. So, without further ado:

With the exception of Boulware, this lineup looks like something you'd expect from an advnaced short-season league team like one in the NY-Penn or the Northwest League

Re: Monday, June 16, 2014, Minor League Updates:

    Freeman pitched a scoreless seventh
Curtis Partch came on in the eighth and gave up a double and a walk before being relieved by Ryan Dennick with one out. A ground ball scores the tying run.

Ruben Gotay singled to lead off the bottom of the eighth. Felix Perez then unties the game with a two-run blast, his 10th on the season. Bats lead 3-1 heading into the ninth.

Jumbo Diaz comes on to record his 17th save of the season. I wonder if he will ever get a shot with the Reds?

    Bats of note:
Thomas Neal doubled, walked and scored a run.
Ruben Gotay singled and scored a run.
Felix Perez singled, homered, scored a run and drove in two. Perez is hitting .299 with 10 bombs and 46 RBIs.
Shelly Duncan singled, walked and drove in a run.

Note: Ryan Dennick came on in a one-run game with runners on the corners. He got a ground out and a strike out. And a blown save.

Billings now trails 3-1 after four.

Aristides Aquino has singled and doubled in two trips to the plate. He has also been thrown out twice on the basepaths. Once on an attempted steal, and once trying to stretch that double into a triple.

Re: Monday, June 16, 2014, Minor League Updates:

Five innings in the books for Tyler Mahle: 5IP 5H 3R 3ER 3BB 4K. 9 ground outs and 0 fly outs are encouraging.

Jose Guzman is coming on to start the sixth. It is his fifth season as a Reds' farmhand. He was a free agent signee in 2009. He has made stops in the DSL, AZL and Pioneer League, pitching for the Mustangs in 2013. He is a 6'3" righthander out of the Dominican Republic.

He works a scoreless frame. He gave up a single and struck out two.

Two years in a row...Jesse Winker wins an all star game Home Run Derby. I love that kid. He just has something about him that says "winner."

Re: Monday, June 16, 2014, Minor League Updates:

Billings takes the lead with three runs in the sixth. Nick Benedetto doubles to lead things off and eventually scores when Cory Thompson reaches on an error. Thompson rides home on a two-run dinger off the bat of Aristides Aquino, who is now just a triple shy of a cycle.

Jose Guzman runs into trouble in the top of the seventh. He allows a walk, a single and a wild pitch. Brennan Bernadino comes in out of the pen and gets the final two outs of the seventh without allowing a run to score.

Bernadino is a tall, lanky lefthander out of Cal State - Dominguez Hills.

I'm beginning to think that Winker can take care of the LF need next year. Over the offseason I'd go after a SS and a and a versatile RH reserve OF who can provide offense and defend all three OF spots.

Glad to see Holmberg finally have a strong start, I'm still optimistic about him.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”
