Good sports podcasts: Hang up and Listen; Only a Game

Getting back to WTF with Marc Maron. He strikes me as incredibly sincere, and that's why I like his show. He clearly has anger management issues, and that's generally a trait that I can't stand in people. But the way he deals with it so openly is quite redeeming. And he interviews well. And he's pretty funny. And he gets good guests. Even his guests that I don't think I'm going to like I usually like.

And I've totally cut the cord on Adam Carrolla. Enjoyed him for years, and he still has his moments. But too often these days he spirals down the well of angry-white-man, victim blaming.

I've been listening to the Rosenthal and Jeselnik Vanity Project (RJVP!). It's an NFL Podcast put out by the NFL. Jeselnik is one of my favorite comedians but it's certainly different to hear him in a heavily censored format, its certainly as far as the NFL willing to stretch their limits of edgy(?) comedy. Last week the entire episode had to be cut for content, which they aren't even allowed to discuss the theme of the episode.

I have always been a big pro wrestling guy. The business just really interest me. I just started working out in August and am hooked on it. One really doesn't have anything tondo with the other but it doesn't hurt that they are similar.

Re: What podcasts do you listen to?

I recently found Opening Arguments podcast. It's billed as a naive interviewer and an astute legal mind analyzing a variety of relevant legal cases that often tie into current events. They also analyze some of the minutia such as how cases move through the courts and how to read legal briefs. The host and legal expert both have a personal liberal bent but their analyses seem quite middle of the road to me, and none of that comes across in their minutia discussions.

    2. Baseball Tonight
    3. Reds Beat Podcast
    4. Guitar Wank
    5. This Week in Tech
    6. This Week in Google

Re: What podcasts do you listen to?

Some of mine are actually "radio" casts, but I hardly get to listen live. Does that disqualify them from being considered podcasts?
    In no particular order:

Planet Money (except if Zoe Chase is on I'll turn it off. Can't stand her voice)
    World Cafe
    Freakonomics
    Wait, Wait, Don't Tell me
1A (just started as a replacement for Diane Rehm)
Innovation Hub (haven't listened in a while)
    Radiolab
    Ted Radio Hour
    Hidden Brain
    Dinner Party Download

As you might be able to guess here, I have pretty much one pipeline to podcasts- public radio. My preference is for somewhat intellectually oriented humor, wonky-ish, yet accessible, non-partisan policy analysis and stuff that makes me pause and think. Outside my usual channels for exploring the podcast universe, I have difficulty finding new ones, so I'm glad to read what others like to listen to.

I've been listening to the S-Town podcast from Serial and This American Life. I wasn't sure what to expect but I have found it incredibly fascinating and have already listened to 6 of the 7 episodes.

It's on my list the next time I'm in the car for an extended time.
