A proactive GM could've realized before the season the likely regression that was going to hit our bullpen HARD. To expect anything out of Marshall was lunacy. And Ondrusek, Hoover, Parra and others weren't exactly locks. Rolling with the status quo has murdered us this year.

Happens every day of the week. Not text book but it's not that unusual. Price used Chapman that way this year. Others too.

But most of all, you can't put Mr. Hoover in that position. Meaningless game for the Reds, but a crushing burden for Hoover at 1-9.

Anybody else but Hoover there IMO.

    Very displeased.
I don't blame Hoover at all. The pen just sucks from top to bottom.

Who was traded at the deadline that the Reds should have gone and got?

Who replaces Hoover if they send him down? Will Partch be any better?

Hoover had a great stretch late last year. He was nails. High expectations.

But you have to adjust in-season.

Hey, the guy is 1-10. Could Partch really do much worse?

No kidding!! These last few days have been brutal, Redlegs can't hold a lead to save their lives! And obviously the disappointing news in Columbus. I've got faith in those Bucks though!

Agree, but don't think for a second that Price and our sleepy GM won't be bailed out by the injury excuse. Like it or not, they will get a mulligan.

    Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

I apologize if this is not positive enough for some folks.

Couldn't be any worse. 0.00 ERA so far.

He struggled most of last season, however. You're right, he did turn it around. But he's been absolutely garbage all season this year. Even if you have faith in him to turn it around, give the guy a breather and let him get his act together. Feeding him to the hyenas is just going to make his mental hole even deeper to climb out of.

I saw this train wreck coming, the last 4 games are a statement of how this season has gone and the managing of Bryan Price. Hoover pitching the 9th inning of a tied game...the only probable outcome was another Reds lose. At least he was economical in losing, he didn't waste time by getting hitters outs before the inevitable.

That was the second time all year the Cards came back after being down in the 7th inning... in 45 attempts.

Dusty might have handled differently, maybe.

I don't believe that would be anywhere near as common as you make it sound.

That said, if you are trying that, it would be with a closer that can go an inning plus, I don't think that fits Broxton anymore.

With Ondrusek blowing last night's game, it was obviously Hoover's turn.

With the shape of the bullpen, and in a tie game, I'm guessing the Reds needed length from Hoover tonight.

I think Contreras would have been needed for multiple innings too.

They are also not developing any relievers worth a darn in the minors, except for Contreras. They want to make everyone a starter and that is great but someone has to pitch in the bullpen because even these great starters cannot all go 7-8 innings. Only Cueto has been able to.

The starters have to pitch like the 1969-71 Orioles and 1991-93 Braves for this team to have any chance to win....and that has not happened even when healthy. Which is an indictment of the bullpen and offense on how bad it has been, since the starters have been very good to great.
