I know they haven't played much, but the call ups don't really look like game changers. Doesn't look like any are major league caliber.

Cubs get Lester in FA and Bryant up next year, and we're looking at the cellar, IMO.

No Meso or Frazier to PH down two in the 9th? Am I missing something here?

Generally speaking, they aren't game changers. Rodriguez is the only guy who will be among the Reds Top 10 prospects and he will be 22-years-old NEXT season. He has a chance to be a game changer. The others are potential parts.

If we get a normal Bruce back and a healthy Votto and the pitchers are healthy we will be looking at the cellar.... from way up top.

There's the walk. Still hope. Is Rondon a lefty? Guess it doesn't matter.

It could be wrong, but my crystal ball doesn't see Bruce returning to career norms.

And the thing positively clouds up when I mention Votto.

With this loss and the Pirates win the Reds are officially eliminated from the post season.

Gloom in Roy's soul. I always hate this day. Even though I know it's inexorably coming, it still stinks when it arrives.

    Re: 9.17.14 Reds @ Cubs Youg'uns!

In the 54 seasons I have been a Reds fan (almost from birth), I've suffered through 21 losing seasons. The years 1966, 1971, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1989, 1991, 1993, 1997, 1998, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2011 were frustrating, but not as frustrating as 2014. The managers who participated in this carnage were Dave Bristol, Sparky Anderson (who got fired after his first losing season), Russ Nixon, Pete Rose, Tommy Helms, Lou Peinella (the year after the World Championship), Tony Perez/Davey Johnson, Ray Knight, Jack Mackeon, Bob Boone, Dave Miley, Jerry Narron, Pete Mac, Dusty Baker, and Brian Price. I would say that 2014 is the most frustrating. Bristol, Soarky,Rose, Sweet Lou, Davey, and Baker were well-known winners, but recovered to win. the rest were fodder. Thank Gawd there were 33 wining seasons in thaty time period. I see nothing but 1997-1997-2009 in our future without wholesale changes in ownership, front office, and the dugout. I do not want to live through that period again.

Sorry, I did mean to say Cubs. They have had a AAA lineup most of the season themselves.Too bad teams won't charge by the level of their play.

Sparky wasn't fired after his first losing season. Sparky first and only losing season with the Reds was 1971. Wagner and his stupidity fired him after 1978. They finished that season,IIRC, only 3 or 4 games behind the Dodgers.
I went back and looked up 1978. Reds won 92 games that season and finshed 2.5 behind the Dodgers. Makes Wagner looked that much more of a moron.

I was working from memory, which is always a bad thing. Sorry, but your point is well taken.

No problem. I'm younger than you but I quit relying much on memory a long time ago.
