“The guys we've had for the most part have been serviceable at this level.”
I don't like the looks of this lineup. Heisey AND Luddy? No Billy....Frazier only had one AB last night? What's going on? I hope this isn't what it looks like.
Say it ain't so, Joe.

I assume hasn't been cleared due to his concussion the other night. Luddy and Heisey is probably due to Liriano. I assume Bruce is 4 for 50 in his career vs Liriano and is being given the rest because of that.
Edit: I was wrong Jay is 0 for 16 vs Liriano while Heisey is 5 for 12 and Luddy 5 for 15.

Price even reached out to Mathey to explain his lineups:This time, he'll see a Cincinnati team that's hardly at full strength. Out since July 5, Joey Votto has been taking batting practice but isn't likely to play this weekend. Billy Hamilton isn't expected to play in this series due to a concussion, and Devin Mesoraco missed Friday's game with sore ribs but could return Saturday.

*Via the teams’ media relations departments, Price reached out through channels to Cardinals manager Mike Matheny to explain why many of his regulars weren’t playing vs. the Pirates — including closer Aroldis Chapman, who also couldn’t pitch Friday with a stiff shoulder. St. Louis is trying to hold off Pittsburgh for the NL Central title.
“I felt it was fair that they understood that. We’re not going ‘hey we’re taking a look at our younger guys’. There are guys that cannot play or will not play or are limited in their ability,” Price said. “That was just three players. There are others on there that can’t play but I wasn’t going to announce to Major League Baseball who is an active player on our roster and who isn’t. I felt like it was the right thing to do simply because I think we’ve really honored this September. We utilized the Baltimore and Chicago series to play more of the younger guys. In the other series, I feel like we’ve played it as straight-up as we possibly can and tried to put the best team on the field based on the matchups and based on who was healthy enough to play. I did want them to know that we’re not trying to just play out the season and take a look at our younger players. We’re trying to put the best team on the field with what we have to choose from.”

Negron walk
BP single
Frazier walk
Rocco single
2-0 Redlegs thanks to an error in the outfield.
3-0 Redlegs on a Heisey groundout.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”
Heisey drives in another with a ground out
“The guys we've had for the most part have been serviceable at this level.”
I think Rocco was safe.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”
Mez thrown out at home. Looked safe to me. Nice slide by Mez though going headfirst into the plate is never the wisest move.
“The guys we've had for the most part have been serviceable at this level.”
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”
And the ruling is upheld. I officially declare the review process a bust this season.

review says out.

Walt's eating ice cream.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”
3-1 Reds at the end of 3. Liriano already at 64 pitches. Simon at 40.
“The guys we've had for the most part have been serviceable at this level.”
Hr by Mercer makes it 3-2.
Things are starting to unravel in the 5th. Runners at second and third for the Pirates and still only one out.
Walker just singled 2 runs in. Pirates now lead 4-3.

Ugh.
