I agree that the first act is a problem in Rogue One and that it gets better as it goes on. It's strange that the first act of Solo also seemed clunky and a little bit boring to me (on top of looking muddy and far too dark), and that movie also gets better as it goes on.
I don't know if the first act problems in both movies reflect the production problems they had or it's a writing problem or both.
This looks good and I hope it delivers.
I saw Ocean's 8 over the weekend, and it was fine. It kind of felt like the 4th installment of a series (kind of stale), but it was fun in the same way Ocean's 12 and Ocean's 13 were fun.
I went into Hereditary expecting the unsettling, slow-burn, atmospheric, psychologically terrifying film promised in the trailers. I walked out disappointed. First 15-30 minutes were exceptional. Then it kept going and was hitting the technically correct notes but just wasn't building into much. Then it went off the rails. I can see how someone might really like it but I was really bummed and kind of upset about wasting 1.5 hours to watch a cheesy short-film style ending sequence. It kind of hit the same general beats as the film the Witch but I thought the Witch was simpler, more focused, and had a more consistent atmosphere throughout.
I thought Jurassic World was dumb fun, but Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom was just dumb.
I feel like Action Point may have contained some throwback brilliance, but it was gone so fast I didn't have the chance to see it.

We'll go down in history as the first society that wouldn't save itself because it wasn't cost effective ~ Kurt Vonnegut
I travel a lot for work now and I’ve seen waaaay to many airplane movies the past couple months.
Movies I liked: The Greatest Showman, Chappaquiddick, Coco, The Snowman, Blade Runner, Molly’s Game, American Made, Wonder
Movies that were ok: Kingsman (the new one), Atomic Blonde, The Mummy (the new one), The Foreigner, King Arthur, Love Simon
Movies that were bad: Downsizing, Geostorm, Murder on the Orient Express, Hall Pass, Ingrid Goes West
Extinction was ok for Netflix, would have been awful as a big screen offering.
