Not sure how anyone could "hate" that film, though it appears that about 3% of imdb users agree with you. Not sure how anyone could not believe that an "alt-country" star could be that popular either.

btw, having not seen the movie, I assume I'm not getting what you're saying about the Grammys. Jason Isbell's a perennial winner in the "lesser" categories, so I'm assuming this means something more.
I’m thinking “on the Grammy telecast” vs “winning a Grammy.”

I just want to start some trouble, but Taylor Swift was an alt-country STAR.

Glad to have stirred the pot - as to hating a Star is Born - my wife hated it as well for a number of different reasons.

As to the alt-Country star - First, Taylor Swift is a different thing altogether than the Jack Maine character. She hit the stratosphere when she went pop, but she was well on her way before then but she was a very pretty young woman - something Bradley Cooper's character will never be (unless he's in Mrs. Doubtfire II). Second, the grammy thing - Kal Daniels was right and I wasn't specific enough - the character was supposed to be playing and at one point starring in a Roy Orbison tribute in the telecast. The more realistic thing would have been Kanye West doing some stupid riff on Orbison but I digress. I guess my main point is that for the Jackson Maine character to be that popular in this day and age is the biggest part of fantasy in this movie and I just couldn't get past it.

Just to add the best actor race this year is going to be awesome. There isnÂ’t a clear front runner for the first time in forever. Rami Malek, Bradley Cooper, Steve Carrell, Ryan Gosling and likely Mahershala Ali (he might end up Supporting) will be the nominees.
Not even sure Malek gets nominated. Cooper seems like the frontrunner, alongside Bale in Vice. Gosling is probably a lock. I'd bet Redford gets a sendoff nod. 5th spot is up in the air.

Don't they nominate up to 10 people? I saw the movie. Malek was really good but during the emotional scenes it looked like he was trying too hard. But I wouldn't have any problem with him getting a nomination.

Saw Bohemian Rhapsody over the weekend. Its not a great flick, but its very enjoyable if you enjoy Queen. Assuming its mostly true (or true enough), it was interesting to hear the back story behind some of their songs, as well as their rise in fame. Freddie came across as weird and often insufferable; perhaps he was in real life as well but by the end you a huge fan of his arc.... Again, not sure how much is embellished, I wouldn't have minded a little more back story behind the songs. The movie makes it appear that the band was relatively normal, aside from Freddie Mercury's antics. I can't believe that in real life there wasn't a bit more strife between the rest of the band, but then again, Mercury is/was the star so its only its only natural that it focuses on him.

Saw Spider-Man into the Spider Verse on Friday it was really really good...the animation was top notch and the story was really good. A must see for comic book fans.

How is it for kids? I know it’s PG but curious if it would be something for my boy who is 4 when it comes out on video.

When the Infinity War trailer came out last year, my (at the time) three year old saw it on my mom and dads Roku and said “I like Spider-Man, I wanna see that”. Needless to say, not happening until he is older.

My wife and I are thinking about taking him to see The Grinch this weekend.

My 5 yr old lil girl saw it with me as did the wife...it was a bit loud for Katie in parts but not scary. Stan Lee's cameo is very touching for Marvel fans...

Saw the Grinch as well and it was cute...not as good as the original obviously.

Saw Green Book yesterday. Inspired by a true story, it's a straight-forward "odd couple" trope that pairs an aristocratic black concert pianist touring the Jim Crow era deep south with a street-wise, Italian mob muscle bodyguard. It has its moments, which makes it an enjoyable watch, but overall it but just misses the mark. It will get some Oscar buzz because it's Oscar bait, but I doubt it wins any significant awards.

As an aside: the wife and I last weekend went to Universal Hollywood. In our Uber back to the hotel, we shared with a guy who was at the park doing an industry showing of Aquaman. He said it was absolutely awful, and by the time it was 10 minutes in he couldn't wait for it to be over.

DC universe movies have terrible outside of Wonder Woman. Maybe James Gunn will change that.
