Echoing the positive comments on The Irishman and Knives Out.

The Irishman, I expect, will age into one of Scorsese's best. It subverts the trope of "We made a ton of money and had a great time, but then we got caught" that so many mob movies (Scorsese included) fell into. It's a real dive into, what does this all mean, like a true Shakespearian tragedy. Also Pesci was ****** great.

Knives Out is as much fun as I've had in a theater in a long time. Toni Collette (treasure) was hilarious, and now I want Daniel Craig to be a Southerner for the rest of his career.

He is a southerner. He's been using that fake British accent forever....

I thought that movie was a lot of fun too. Surprised it didn't get more recognition.

Jackie Brown is probably my favorite from Tarantino.

Terrence Malick's A Hidden Life is out Friday. Not that I'll be able to watch it anywhere, though...

Thanks for the recommendation...I've ordered the dvd from my library. I'd really like to see Knives Out, but my state of health and theater attendance at 2+ hour movies don't mix, so I await the dvd release.

    I'm a little split on Marriage Story. I thought it was a mostly well-acted, well-written, well-constructed drama.

It was also a not-as-good update of Kramer vs. Kramer.

And the acting occasionally lapses into "Look at me, I'm ACTING" territory.

Or as I like to call it: Anne Hathaway Syndrome.

Noah Baumbach can make some great stuff and I do like most of his movies but they are all in that potentially cringe genre of "intellectual, affluent, white people problems" and, sometimes, I am not in the mood for that at all.

I have had no motivation to try stomaching this new one.

Ad Astra was terrible, it's rare that I watch a film and want to take a nap during it but that's the feelings it brought out in me.

We watched it last night. I thought Adam Driver was legitimately great, but the movie itself was just a bummer. I don't know what it brought to the table in the end-of-relationship drama, but I do know that both of the main characters were genuinely unlikeable, and my wife and I went to bed just kind of generally sad.

I saw Midway last weekend. Since then I have several times looked up the "true story" for several scenes that seemed too "Hollywood" to be true. Thus far virtually everything significant in the film appears to have been accurate. It is a good movie, far superior to the 1976 movie of the same name.
"Hey...Dad. Wanna Have A Catch?" Kevin Costner in "Field Of Dreams."

I don't know if I'd have 10 movies to make a 10 Best Movies of the Year list, but I'd definitely include Knives Out, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Midsommar, The Last Black Man in San Francisco, and Us.
