All-Time Standings (5x5 Category Totals Method)
This is what the All-Time Standings would look like if all six seasons of our league were combined into one long season. For example, to find the total runs I added up how many runs each team scored from 2009-2014. The team with the most total runs over those 6 seasons got 12 points, the team with the 2nd most total runs got 11 points and so on. I repeated this exercise for all 10 scoring categories to find the Total Points.Code:Runs Run HRs HR RBI RBI Steals Steal BA BAVG Wins Win Saves Save Ks K ERA ERA WHIP WHIP Rank Points Total Points Total Points Total Points Total Points AVG Points Total Points Total Points Total Points AVG Points AVG Points Atomic Dumpling 1 106 5799 12 1447 12 5808 12 864 11 0.281 12 510 10 819 12 7663 11 3.62 7 1.23 7 redsfandan 2 103 5405 10 1394 10 5196 10 893 12 0.274 8 495 6 750 11 7724 12 3.31 12 1.18 12 mbgrayson 3 96 5551 11 1396 11 5356 11 756 7 0.272 7 516 12 671 10 6888 7 3.44 11 1.21 9 Will M 4 76 5329 9 1267 5 5093 9 862 10 0.276 11 513 11 474 5 6845 6 3.64 6 1.27 4 TRF's debacle 5 61 4965 3 1259 4 4806 3 743 6 0.268 5 481 5 637 8 7143 10 3.52 9 1.21 8 camisadelgolf is #1 6 60 5115 7 1241 3 4866 4 792 8 0.264 2 497 7 658 9 6992 9 3.67 5 1.25 6 The BaseCloggers 7 58 5006 5 1209 2 4652 2 690 3 0.276 10 432 2 501 6 6912 8 3.51 10 1.21 10 kaldaniels 7 58 5297 8 1302 7 4988 6 819 9 0.271 6 499 8 341 3 6790 5 3.68 4 1.28 2 Gilpdawg 9 55 5058 6 1340 9 5073 7 699 4 0.268 4 504 9 458 4 6775 4 3.70 3 1.27 5 CRF2000 10 49 4995 4 1306 8 4949 5 646 1 0.274 9 406 1 141 1 5481 1 3.55 8 1.21 11 GAllen5862 11 29 4858 1 1281 6 5084 8 689 2 0.260 1 463 4 330 2 6393 3 4.14 1 1.31 1 StrikesOutLooking 11 29 4888 2 1066 1 4480 1 705 5 0.266 3 453 3 585 7 6190 2 3.85 2 1.27 3
You can compare how this method of computing the All Time Standings results in some differences from the Points Method described in a post above:
- The top 6 places are exactly the same. In prior years we saw differences.
- BaseCloggers go from 9th to 7th in this method.
- The standings in the middle are very tight, with only a handful of points separating 6 teams.
- There is a wider range of scores in the 5x5 Category method (106 points for 1st, down to 29 points for last) vs the Points Method (96.3 points for 1st, down to 42.3 points for 12th)
Comparing this up-to-date chart with last year's chart:
- Redsfandan continues inching his way closer to 1st place. He was 8 points behind last year but is now within 3 points.
- Last year mbgrayson and redsfandan were tied for 2nd with 100 points.
- TRF's Debacle moves from 6th place to 5th place despite losing two points.
- Will M moves from 7th place with 59 points all the way up to 4th with 76 points. A championship season will do that for you.
- BaseCloggers gained 6 points but only moved up one spot, from 8th to tied for 7th.
- Many categories are extremely tight even after 6 whole seasons. Getting an extra handful of homers or steals this year could bump your team up a couple places in the all-time standings. We should continue to see big changes in the standings each year.
You can also see who the all-time leaders in each category are. You can use this chart to determine your team's strengths and weaknesses over the years and maybe figure out a way to improve your strategy. One bad year can really wreak havoc on your ranking in this league, but on the other hand one really great year can shoot you up the list quickly. It will be interesting to see how things shift as the years go by. One neat thing about these All-Time Standings is they can give teams who may be out of the running for a championship late in the year an additional motivational factor. Maybe a team can't win a league title this year but they can still gain ground in the All-Time Standings. We not only fight for yearly championships, we also fight to be the All-Time Champ. These standings may not mean that much now after only six seasons, but a few more years down the road it would be pretty cool to be the All-Time Leader after a decade-long run.
Which method of calculating the all-time standings do you think is best -- the points method or the 5x5 Category method?
I like 5x5 category of course
The only bias I see in it is statistical trends in baseball eras. I know one of my motivations to set my lineup late in the season is to have a respectable all-time record...
That is a good point about the stat trends. Since scoring is declining steadily, it makes it harder to gain ground in the hitting categories but easier to gain ground in the pitching categories like ERA and WHIP. This phenomenon affects the 5x5 category method but not the points method.
I am interested in trading for some N/A players. I am willing to make other type trades as well. Is anyone interested in making a trade with me?

Since I have a free roster spot following the last trade, does this mean I can undrop Danny Farquhar? I would completely understand if not, but it'd be nice if I could, seeing as how a couple people still haven't even renewed their teams yet.

Everyone please send me your cut list by Wednesday if you haven't already. The league is now full so I can get the rosters finalized.
Is it too much to ask that all dropped players be publicly seen or announced in some way, rather than just a PM to the commish at some point? Thanks. I've seen several announcements by guys but I would like to know each teams drops.
That is not too much to ask. I can see the value in that. I will try to put something like that together while I manually input the rosters for everyone later this week. All the dropped players will be visible in the pre-draft free agent player list, but you wouldn't be able to tell which ones were rostered and then dropped. I will see what I can do.
