Bryan Price Tries Something Different With Today's Lineup

    1. Brandon Phillips (R) 2B
    2. Joey Votto (L) 1B
    3. Todd Frazier (R) 3B
    4. Jay Bruce (L) RF
    5. Brayan Pena (S) C
    6. Marlon Byrd (R) LF
    7. Zack Cozart (R) SS
    8. Jason Marquis (L) P
    9. Billy Hamilton (S) CF

    Thoughts?

Personally, I think it's the best lineup of the season.

Hamilton is the perfect 9th place hitter, with the pitcher batting 8th.

In all fairness, Price's lineups have been his strong suit. It's a shame they don't matter all that much.

According to Elias, the last time a #Reds pitcher didn't bat 9th in the starting lineup, came on 9/7/33 vs Brooklyn. (Red Lucas batted 7th)
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

This is what was missing all along! The stupid Tony LaRussa brainchild of batting the pitcher 8th. I know the offense has been substandard; I realize the Reds are ravaged by injuries again; I understand we have the worst bullpen in MLB. But the real missing piece of the puzzle was batting the pitcher 8th.

Hallelujah! Bryan Price has cracked the code.

Getting out of this losing streak is going to be more about the players than anything Price can do, but I do love this lineup. Feels like Price is trying something new every day.

    It's a good lineup.

    But sure.

Biggest problem with that lineup is that Marquis is pitching. Otherwise, sure why not, what's the worst that can happen, nine straight losses?

Arrange it any way you want, it's still full of bad hitters. I admire Price for mixing things up, but I don't feel that it matters in the slightest.

    5/25/15 Rockies @ Reds

    Reds starting lineup:

    1. Phillips
    2. Votto
    3. Frazier
    4. Bruce
    5. Pena
    6. Byrd
    7. Cozart
    8. Marquis
    9. Hamilton

First time since 1933 that Reds haven't batted the pitcher 9th. Break the streak today boys!

It's actually a pretty good lineup.

Only Hamilton could be considered "bad"

I probably won't even watch today with Marquis pitching. I think I will know what's going to happen.

I don't know how much difference it will make but that's about the best you can do lineup wise with this team.

I like phillips leading off. Like votto at 2 hole. Like bham 9th. Don't like bruce 4th. I plead the 5th if this is the magic potion needed.
