Anne Meara, of Stiller & Meara fame, dies at age 85

Surprised no one started a thread about actress comedian Anne Meara dying over the weekend. Most folks younger than me know her as Ben Stiller's mother and know her husband Jerry Stiller's work from Seinfeld, but in the 60's, Stiller & Meara were a hit duo doing stand-up in their own inimitable way (along with Mike Nichols and Elaine May - prior to Nichols moving on to his directing career). Personally I've thought Jerry's comedy falls off without his wife Anne Meara.

What surprises me is how few clips there are of their act, particularly of a whole routine.

I just saw this a few minutes ago. I hadn't heard anything at all about her death until then. They were a good comedy team at one time and I agree she was the better half of the Stiller/Meara team.

I grew up seeing them on talk and variety shows and the like. Not many of those folk still around. There is one stand-up guy who popped up on every daytime talk show imaginable, who I really had to grow into liking, that I still see from time to time, a guy named Steve Martin.

I'll be ever thankful to her for Stiller and Meara, Mrs. Sherwood in Fame, and her role on All in the Family, among many others. I'll forgive her for Ben.
