Lord knows there are no shortage of stat guys around here. Tell you what, we'll make a friendly bet: If Todd is swinging at significantly more pitches outside the strikezone in the 2nd half of the season, the next time I'm in Edinburgh or you're in Cincinnati, I'll buy you a beer and if he isn't you buy me one.

You would think having him swing less at stuff outside the zone would be productive but I'm not so sure. It would probably help most people out - especially when they are in the minors - but if they are still doing it once they get to the Show and they are productive like Todd, having them change may mess them up. Say a guy like Vlad Guerrero. His strike zone was pretty much the whole area code but he still hit well. If he were more patient, maybe he would have hit better (although I'm not sure how much he could improve on what he did) but maybe it would get him thinking too much up there and he'd be thinking more about what pitches to swing at than just making hard contact. Of course there's no way of knowing if that could happen and there's no real way to measure it but I just don't think the same hitting style works for everyone.

Now when Sosa was hitting all those HRs back in the late 90s, he became quite a bit more patient cause he used to swing at everything but some of that was because he was getting pitched around a bunch.

    Ivan strikes out swinging.

But it's an RBI (Run Balked In) for the Redlegs. 4-3 going to the bottom of the 3rd.

Sounds like you got yourself a deal

I agree when you have a unique player/swing like Frazier it may be dangerous to tamper with what has brought success., however when in an elongated slump like Todd it may have been useful to try a slightly different approach.

    Blue Jays have signed Heisey.

The band isn't getting back together.

But we can still get Stubby.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

If the Reds were to acquire Stubbs, I would seriously look elsewhere for a team to root for.

Indeed - striking out Alonso, Kemp and Upton in order.

As a singer, Bronson's a pretty good pitcher.
