I don't think it's easy. But I don't think it's art either. A certain kind of craft maybe.

If you don't think Max Martin is a good songwriter, it's you. You're out of touch.

Pop music is music. The same people who love the Beatles for "I wanna Hold Your Hand" are the same ones that knock Taylor Swift.

    Max ain't writing "The Macarena."

If the Beatles had never gone beyond "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" I wouldn't argue with you.

If they didn't, I am very happy, but we certainly heard that said enough times during their hour and a quarter of fame (I think each of them got fifteen minutes). They were the all-time most successful group in Britain, beating all the Beatles records! If all that was rubbish, the world is a better place.

Same for One Direction, whichever direction that may be.

My piano teacher once told me that "This song is very simple..."

"But some of the best songs ever written are simple..."

If the Beatles wrote 100 "I Want to Hold Your Hand's" they'd be right where they are on the list.

Oh, I'm sure I'm out of touch. But I'm not convinced he's a great songwriter based on hittage.

What marc said, I love the Beatles, but don't care for the early stuff.

    Max ain't writing "The Macarena."
I find The Macarena really infectious. Now, if Martin had written THAT.....

When I see the 2016 Reds, I see a 100 loss team and no direction.

Max Martin has written more #1 songs than anyone but McCartney and Lennon.

I'm sorry but that speaks for itself.

His list is here, it's impressive.

I'm not sure what that means. Music isn't sports. "Scoreboard!" doesn't work.

What people like is a factor.

    Success is a factor.

But really- there are so many on that list that are superior pop songs, he deserves the ranking.

I know it's subjective but when you do it over and over to the point your 3rd best in history chartwise, it's hard to say gosh, everybody liked it but it sucked.

    I shouldn't do this, but. . . .

There is one song on that list I have on my current playlist and a couple more I enjoy. There are many more that I consider among the worst to ever grace the airwaves, although I'll give him credit and say the Titanic interlude in "Oops. . . . ", the stupidest thing ever done on vinyl, was probably not part of the song he wrote.
