    * What are the numbers from June 3 to July 3?

    * Did he slump a second time for a complete month-long stretch?

    * Do you consider AG elite or just really good? I kinda lean toward the latter, but I wouldn't press that too much if someone wanted to call him elite. Just typing out loud here.

I don't know who else you might consider elite.
    I'll accept that, counselor.

Posey started the season OPSing .721 in March and April. Not Elite.

Josh Donaldson OPS'd .720 in June. Not Elite.

The GREAT Matt Carpenter OPS'd .577 in June.

Starting the season cold isn't all that uncommon, though, even for stars, so I'd throw that out on Posey.

Donaldson and Carpenter both went through a rough patch... but did they experience two? That's part of my point. At the time the "elite" comments came up, Joey had experienced two of those stretches, and certainly was not elite.

But, again, I also noted there's a reason why we count stats for 162 games and not bits and pieces. He's going to come out looking elite if he stays on this trajectory.

But he's such a leader for announcing during the Spring that he would accept a reduced role to stay on the team. #LeadershipBrag

    Re: 08162015 Reds @ Dodgers

One of the big problems with this debate, Bluegrass, is that you are giving Marty a huge break. He didn't say "Votto isn't elite this month" or "Right now, he's not playing at an elite level". He said, and I quote:

"I will not categorize it as criticism. I will categorize it as a statement of fact. Joey Votto is no longer one of the elite players in MLB"

That is a man confidently calling his shot, not a man merely suggesting Votto has had a rough go of it lately. He is letting the world know that Franchester Martin 'Marty' Brennaman, the voice of the Reds for over 40 years, can now clearly see that former MVP Joey Votto is no longer an MVP caliber talent.

    And he was dead wrong.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

It was over the top, but given that he had watched a poor 2014 season followed by the first four months of 2015 in which Votto did very little for two of them, I don't think it was completely unfair.

That said, he should have gauged Votto for a season's work and not just a couple of months.

And, as I said earlier, he's been very complimentary of Votto here lately so this daily exercise of taking Marty to task every time Votto does well is just as silly as his original comments. It's time for it to end and move on to something else. Like bashing his offspring.

I just don't buy that he was unproductive for 2 of the first 4 months of this season.

    Code:
Season	Monthly	BB%	K%	BB/K	AVG	OBP	SLG	OPS	ISO	BABIP	wRC	wRAA	wOBA	wRC+
    2015	Mar/Apr	15.5 %	19.6 %	0.79	.317	.423	.646	1.069	.329	.339	21	10.4	.447	187
    2015	May	11.9 %	18.3 %	0.65	.253	.349	.358	.707	.105	.301	13	0.6	.318	99
    2015	Jun	19.0 %	17.4 %	1.10	.286	.421	.510	.932	.224	.319	22	8.6	.401	155
    2015	Jul	23.0 %	14.2 %	1.63	.405	.549	.667	1.215	.262	.453	30	17.7	.509	229
He may have had a week here or there other than May where he sucked but certainly not two months.

When the game thread is about the paid entertainers and not the players and the brain trust, I'm glad I missed it. It's going to be a long almost two months for Reds fans.

At least this game was pleasant to watch. Nice, snappy, well pitched game. Always a pleasure too listening to Scully do the game. The road trip went about as well as what I expected. I thought if they won one game in each place it would be "good" trip for them. So this met might extremely low expectations. The trip to LA was a nice vacation for Chapman. He didn't pitch in a game and only warmed up in the 9th yesterday in what, I'm sure, he knew was a game he would never get into. Probably the most under utilized outstanding pitcher in the history of MLB.
