To your further point I suspect this goes back to Marlon Byrd 2013, but I'm over it. They did get 2010 Jim Edmonds so I think it could go either way. You don't always have to bring over an old crusty guy.
Well, you can go with Michael Morse; or you can go with Jason Bourgeois.

The Reds did pick up Jim Edmonds once, late, but usually entrusted their bench to journeymen.

The Pirates, also a smaller market team, have been willing to supplement the bench with players of better quality when they have a chance to win.

Edmonds was not a legit pickup when the Reds acquired him. He could barely walk.

A good example of a late-season pickup is Billy Doran by the '90 Reds.

The Pirates of late are a better run organization than Cincinnati. That's the complaint from me.

But speculating on a signing like Morse is a drop in the bucket when it comes to the real problem IMO.

Not suggesting Reds would sign a Morse this season. Just noting the difference in philosophies when the teams have a chance to win.

My wife was like: "Why are you still watching the Reds?" (Picture the most-beeotchy tone you could imagine.)

I say: "I'm rooting for them to lose so they get a good draft pick."

    She was flummoxed.

Not sure why Matheus is pitching now, throws a wild pitch, Bucs threatening. Could have used Hoover I guess, two outs in the seventh. Whatever.

Good pitch by Mattheus to strike out the aforementioned Morse. On to the eighth.

Great ballgame, LOL, with Reds still having a chance to win.

Wow, run(s) didn't score. Maybe the Reds will win this one.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Very soon the Rockies - Giants game will be underway.

Just imagine the excitement of the sports world with the Reds, Braves, and Rockies competing for draft position all playing at the same time.
