That waitress was Kate Murtaugh and had a good film career. She was in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s amongst many others.
She used to wake me up with coffee ever morning

For this album cover alone. 13 Top-40 hits. I'd say they have a case.

Leadbelly and Woody Guthrie in, and rightfully so I guess, but then what about Ramblin' Jack Elliott?
I've been to dinner at Jimmy Buffet's house, and I've eaten it at a homeless shelter. And there's great joy and harrowing terror to be found in both places.

    How is that even possible?

As well as a gazillion AOR radio hits which never reached the Pop Top 40.

    Another, IMHO, glaring omission:

    Multiple Platinum Albums? Check.

Multiple Pop Top 40 hits? Check.

A Billboard Number one single? Check.

At least two songs that still Oldies/Classic Rock Radio staples? Check.

Supremely talented songwriter, instrumentalist and vocalist? Check.

Few, if any, peers as a humanitarian? Check.

Adored by both critics as well as the public? Check.

It's well past time to posthumously induct Harry Chapin into the RRHOF.

A brilliant songwriter whose two biggest hits were written by other people. Speaking of which, I think they should induct Badfinger just to make it all up to them a little. Maybe the most tragic band of all time. First band signed to Apple Records (Beatles label, not Steve Jobs, kiddies), Apple falls apart just as they're taking off, they trust a manager who was incompetent and/or crooked (I'd have to look it up), both of their songwriters, the singer and the guitarist, kill themselves because of the mess, years apart. And then, as if that wasn't enough, Mariah Carey covers "Without You" and Harry Chapin dies while her version is out.

At least their reputation was revived when Walter White died to "Baby Blue".

Edit: Sorry about the spoiler. Maybe Walt gets better?

Mariah Carey was 11 years old and not yet covering anything when Harry Chapin, who wrote all of his material, died. You're confusing Chapin with Nilsson.

I agree about Badfinger, though. They should be inducted on the basis of "No Matter What" alone.

And I have been this whole thread. Sorry. I think I was thrown off in the beginning because there's been a strong push for Nillson in recent years, including a song written supporting his candidacy.

No big deal. It happens to the best of us.

Once ELO finally gained RRHOF induction, I promised myself that I wouldn't get wrapped up in sort of debate. But old habits die hard, and here I am.

Harry Nilsson, IMO, should be in.

Re: Annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame snubs thread.

We haven't taken a dive into this year's class.

On the ballot we've got the Go-Go's, Devo, Todd Rundgren, the New York Dolls, Carole King, Dionne Warwick, Tina Turner, Fela Kuti, Foo Fighters, Iron Maiden, Rage Against the Machine, LL Cool J, Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige, Chaka Khan and Kate Bush.

I'm going to guess Tina Turner and Jay-Z are automatics, and I'm a bit surprised Carole King isn't in there. Going on the theory that max two of the guitar groups has a chance, I'll say the Go-Go's and Foos, in that order, have the best shot. Fela Kuti's one of those "Is he rock and roll?" candidates that I assume is a sure thing, kind of like Nina Simone last year. I don't have a lot of hope that Iron Maiden will make it, but it would be nice to see them get in while they can still ride the lightning. I'd think Devo would be a critic's darling, but if they were they'd have been in decades ago.

On a separate note, I want Guided By Voices on the ballot.
    I'm not a system player. I am a system.
