Michael Oher immediately comes to mind.

Oher was taken in by a family eerily similar to Swanigan. The family raising Oher had massive connections to Ole Miss and it caused a NCAA investigation, but he was cleared to play.

Gotcha, but this is a little bit different. Barnes is not only a Purdue alum(played basketball and football), but he is also a sports agent.

    A first for the NCAA?

In that way, yes. Ole Miss hired Ohers high school football coach, a guy by the name of Hugh Freeze, to a position.

The movie does a really good job though. Sean Tuohy was actually a former Ole Miss PG who holds the all time assist record for the conference.

I believe the Jamal Crawford situation was pretty similar to this as well. Crawford, in high school, began living with a guy who furnished him with gifts during his stay. No one believed it had anything to do with his going to Michigan. However, the NCAA deemed it a violation of 'amateurism' and he was suspended at Michigan for living with the guy in high school.

In this case here, Roosevelt Barnes actually adopted this kid.
