An objective ranking of how awesome the callback appearances were when they happened:

    7. R2-D2
    6. Leia
    5. C-3PO
    4. Han + Chewie
    3. Millennium Falcon
    2. Luke

I think there was only one thing that bugged me. When everyone returned to the base at the end, Leia went and hugged Ray and completely ignored poor Chewie.

Loved the movie and I loved that JJ stuck to a more traditional take on the movies and he most likely has Kasden to thank for that. Makes me wonder where Rian Johnson will go with episode 8. I would have loved to have seen that old spark between Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher. Ford was good throughout but Fisher unfortunately left a lot to be desired. Thank God for Rey.

I think it was the Botox, because Carrie was really stiff. Like, her face didn't move.

I swear that my one-word snarky review was going to be "Botox." Carrie looked more like a star wars character than the Star Wars characters. But the movie was a delight overall.

So, Finn -- force sensitive or no?

I'm thinking force sensitive, even though he gets owned in both of his attempted lightsaber fights. He at least held his own for a few seconds against Kylo Ren, and I assume a non-force user would just be immediately killed. Plus, Ren immediately notices him in the opening scenes on Jakku -- like he knew there was something about him.

Yeah, and then there's the whole thing about how come he became a deserter stormtrooper with sensitivity to human genocide and right/wrong, when that has never (to our knowledge) happened to a programmed-from-birth stormtrooper, ever.

    Just saw it.

    ****.

    Yeah I know.

I agree, Rey is definitely a Skywalker who just doesn't know it yet.

Killing Solo, didn't see that coming, until of course he stepped out onto that bridge. Majorly pissed about that one. Might have shed a tear. Maybe.

Overall liked it, had some mild disappointment in the fact it's just a redo of ANH in a lot of ways but I do think it was a very good film.

No, I think Ren noticed him because of his nerves.

Re: The Force Awakens -- discussion with spoilers

I figured that the only way Ford would've signed onto another Star Wars movie is if he was promised his character was being killed off. I'm fairly certain he was advocating for that back in the 80s too.

Even still, I was still convinced Chewbacca would be the one biting it right up until Han stepped onto the bridge. It was a gut punch to see him get run through by his own kid like that. I think it may have stung a little bit more because I'd just watched Return of the Jedi the night before and was kinda struck by just how much of an almost fairy-tale like "Happily Ever After" ending it has. To transition from that to where we find everyone in E7 is kinda jarring, and then to have it completely shattered by Han being killed like that makes it an almost complete 180.

I think the movie needed more of Poe Dameron's character. I liked Finn and Rey, but Poe had the kind of "swagger" to his character that the series was devoid of in the prequels. That was Han's role in the original trilogy.
