Tarantino is basically shut out of the major awards again. Not surprising in really any category other than Best Picture. I would have thought The Hateful Eight would have made the cut of the top 10.

Not a single person of color in any of the acting categories

Saw The Revenant last night. Wow. It's going to clean up.

Leo finally has to break the streak here, right?
I don't like to sound egotistical, but every time I stepped up to the plate with a bat in my hands, I couldn't help but feel sorry for the pitcher.

Yeah, the 0 for 40 streak the Academy is riding of no minority nominations each of the last two years is unfortunate. However, I think they did a pretty good job this time around and not sure who I would add/remove to solve that. Really, the bigger problem is the lack of high-ranking positions held in Hollywood by women and minorities. The Academy, with its public influence, can help shape that, but they have to be given the movies to do it.

Which one do you remove from the Best Picture race? I was more surprised Carol was snubbed...

I've seen more than a few of the movies nominated, but man, it seems like there are about 10 movies between all of the categories. And that's a shame.

The four acting categories. Thats a good point about Inarritu. Coincidentally, with Ex Machina not nominated, he's had my favorite nominee for Best Picture two years in a row...
edit: actually, I don't know. I really enjoyed The Revenant, its clearly a masterpiece in filmmaking, but I cared about Brooklyn more.

Reverent is pure Oscar bait, a totally forgettable film, outside of the way that it was shot. I'm not surprised it got so many nominations, but still disappointed that the Oscars are so predictable.
Ex-Machina is one the best movies of this decade. I can't believe it was so overlooked.
