Well that might have been the negotiation. The Reds had leverage here as long as they could make Boras believe Senzel could fall to 4-6 or whatever. The Reds could find some middle ground closer to something a little bit higher than those slots but perhaps had to make them believe they had a fallback option in Puk that they were serious enough about to pass on Senzel.

I'm glad it happened. Makes this first round just that much sweeter.

You're probably right. We were speculating last week as to what reason the Reds would have for still kicking a bunch of tires and getting the price of the pick in line with what you intend to pay likely is a big part of that.

    Deep sleeper for today:

Alex Call, OF - Ball State

OPS over 1.100 in MAC. Not exactly a pitcher's conference but that is stout.

Bring on da Funk....good risk/reward. Later, round 7 or so, Matt Gonzalez from Georgia Tech would be a good senior sign. He can hit. Sign him and send him to Dayton.

I've learned over the years that if you think a kid might be a good idea, he's probably a good idea.

Also just noticed Ball State has a player named Maverick Bacon.

Jonathan Mayo just said the Reds had his favorite draft (thus far).

Also Callis mentioned the Reds were a team that was trying to get Rutherford to fall to 35. Now THAT would've been nice (but I'm not complaining).

I think Mendoza has been wrongly arrested in Wesley Connecticut but Sam and Toby can get him out unless one of them needs an emergency woot canal.

My guy today is Christian Jones, a 1B-OF from Federal Way HS in Washington State. I fell in love with him during the RedsZone mock.

From Stark, via the Philly board.
This has me concerned that the Reds paid too much for Senzel @ #2. I'm really looking forward to seeing what Senzel, LEwis and Rutherford end up signing for.

How could they have paid too much for him? At the end of the day they weren't going to get a better haul than Senzel/Trammell out of the first round (you could argue for Wentz at 35 instead but I doubt he signs for more than Trammell anyway).
