The collegiate national team serves as a good watch list. I think invitations are still out there.

Matt Crohan (32nd round pick) was on the team last year. I hope they make him an offer and let him rehab his injury as a professional.

Jeren Kendall would be a nice guy to target. Maybe JJ Schwarz and KJ Harrison, though both are catchers.

    Re: 2017 Draft Discussion

I've seen a couple draft pundits compare the 2017 draft to the 2011 draft, which is widely viewed as one of the best drafts of all-time. If that's the case, even if the Reds pick 10th they should be in position to land a top talent. Jordon Adell, the HS outfielder from Louisville looks intriguing as does Jeren Kendall of Vanderbilt. A top outfielder or SS prospect in round one is my hope.

    Re: 2017 Draft Discussion

The Reds have been winning waaaaaay too much lately. And the rotation is only going to get better as the season progresses.

I don't want to fall out of the top-5 of the 2017 draft just so the 2016 Reds can win some meaningless games. Especially the way it's set up where the Reds wouldn't just pick in the top-5 of the first round, they would pick in the top-5 of all 40 rounds. That's huge. I wonder how many guys we landed this year (Mondile comes to mind immediately, but there are others) that would have been off the board if we were picking just a few picks later? I imagine quite a few. Senzel would have been gone if we were picking, say, 7th instead of 2nd. (Trammell somehow falling to us at 35 isn't really germane to this discussion since he was a competitive balance lottery A pick, and it was just plain luck that the Reds landed in that spot. Had nothing to do with their 2015 W-L record.) Okey? He likely would have been there at 48 since he was there at 43 (and was demanding to be paid $2M to sign).

Hanson? If the Reds were picking 84th instead of 79th, there's a good chance he would have been gone. Moss? Probably would have been available regardless. Hendrix? Tough call, not really sure if 5 picks one way or the other would have mattered with him. Mondile? Again, I bet he's off the board if the Reds are picking 5 picks later in the 6th round.

So, the 2016 Reds need to stop all of this winning.

Getting Trammel and perhaps Okey had some to do with their 2015 record due to the increased pool allotment.

The A's are likely not to need much help tanking either but they're likely to trade Gray as well.
Why would Nola be shut down? He pitched a combined 185 innings last year.

I read somewhere that he probably would be, but I didn't look into the reasoning or anything. Based on the 185 innings he probably won't be, though I wonder if fatigue will set in for him at some point given his young age and high workload.

Alex Faedo for Florida is pitching right now on ESPN2. Per John Manuel, he is a strong contender to go number 1 in next year's draft.

This is a good primer for which high schoolers will go at the top of next year's draft.

Through 81 games, the Reds are 29-52 which puts them on pace for 58-104. Reds are currently in line for the third overall pick in the 2017 draft, but they only trail the Braves by a 1.5 games for second overall and Twins by 3 games for the first pick. I refuse to root against the Reds but I'm pulling for the Braves/Twins to get hot.

So the Reds will probably deal Bruce and Cozart. The Braves maybe Markakis and who knows who else. Vizcaino maybe. The Twins shopping Trevor Plouffe. I'd say the Reds are going to be dumping the most production and may get that top pick yet.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!
