Twins pounded the ball today, and overall I think they have much more talent than either us or the Braves. The Braves are right about our level, but amazingly their pitching is only poor and not historically poor (something I think points to coaching but that is for another thread).

#1 pick is certainly within our grasp.

Reds with 53 losses, Twins and Braves 54. Essentially a tie at this point.

Twins may have scheduling advantage since every team in AL Central is over .500 and thinking playoffs. Reds/Braves have a losing team in division.

If Reds trade Bruce and Cozart that could be significant factor in avoiding wins.

Is it a huge deal to get a #1 pick in this draft? Meaning, is there a Bryce Harper type in this group?

Drafting higher though usually means a bigger bonus pool allowing the team to take a chance on signing a guy who might goto college. Taylor Trammel is a good example of this.

When does the Cape cod league start? Anyone making a name for himself?

Not really; that's next year's Seth Beer sweepstakes.

I think the Reds will be spectacularly positioned for it.

Already started, haven't heard much yet though.

Even if there isn't a clear 1-1 player, the financial advantage of the 1st overall pick is huge... the difference between the 1st and 3rd picks in 2016 was roughly $2.5 mil.

Harper is a once in a generation type of talent, so no. However, the 2017 draft is being compared by some to the 2011 draft which is considered one of the best and deepest of all-time.

One guy that really has my attention early is Jordon Adell, a 17 year old outfielder from Louisville. He's got a big frame (6-3, 200), has been clocked at 96 mph on the mound, runs a 6.19 60 yard dash, and has great bat speed and power.

SS Mark Vientos (2017, FL) follows up HR in 1st w/ loud 2B to the wall. Separating well w/ extension & showing good bat speed. #Canes commit

Maybe...if we end up trading Bruce and Cozart and go through another year like this one Seth Beer could, maybe, make it 'worth it'. I mean his stats in college this year as a 19 year old in his first year were just absolutely stupid. 1235 OPS in the ACC with 62 walks 27 KOs and 18 HRs............lol

Yup, definitely hoping for best pick available at this point. Then we all pray we strike gold with the Lotto picks again.

I just can't see the Reds being bad enough next season to land the #1 overall pick in 2018. If only Beer had been eligible in 2017...
