Reds Minor League Thread for games of: 05/18/2021

DAYTON - 7:05 PM EDT - 8-4 - The Dragons split their 6 games with Lansing, and will now travel to South Bend for 6 more. Noah Davis is on the mound for start number 3 on the season. Davis sports an 0-2 record through no fault of his own. He has allowed only 2 hits in innings. He has also fanned 16, and his ERA is 2.70. His control has been suspect yielding 6 walks.

DAYTONA - 7:05 PM EDT - 6-6 - Daytona lost 4 of 6 to St. Lucie to even their season record at 6 up and 6 down. Carson Spiers, nephew of ex-big league Bill Spiers, will make the start for the Turtles. Spiers has no decisions in two starts. Carson has fanned 13 in 10.1 innings, while working to a 0.84 ERA. They host the Jupiter Hammerheads.

CHATTANOOGA - 7:35 PM EDT - 8-4 - The Lookouts are on the road, and will play the Mississippi Queens. Do you know what I mean? If the rotation holds, Nick Lodolo should be toeing the rubber for 'Nooga. Lodolo's ERA stands at 1.08. He has punched out 13 hitters in 8.1 innings. His last outing was a little shaky, featuring 4 bases on balls. Chattanooga was 4-2 for the second straight series.

LOUISVILLE - 7:45 PM EDT - 3-8 - Louisville was 2-4 versus Gwinnett, and will now try their luck with the Memphis Cardinals. On the mound for the Bats, will be Tony Santillan. Santillan has delivered excellent results in his first starts of 2021. With Louisville, however, that doesn't always translate into wins, as Santillan's sparklings 1.13 ERA can attest to.

    MISCELLANEOUS:

The organization's starters tonight are: Davis (2.70), Spiers (0.84), Lodolo (1.08) and Santillan (1.13).

Hunter Greene was his league's Player of the Week: https://www.milb.com/chattanooga/new...er-of-the-week

Louisville's starting rotation - Ashton Godeau (2.79), Vlad Gutierrez (2.45), Riley O'Brien (2.45), Tony Santillan (1.13) and Bo Takahashi (2.61) - have pitched a combined 50.0 innings to the tune of a 2.34 ERA. Over that span they have struck out 53, while serving up just 2 home runs.

Chattanooga's starting rotation - Hunter Greene (1.69), Reiver Sanmartin (0.90), Lodolo (1.08), Connor Curlis (1.80), Michael Byrne (0.00) and Randy Wynne (11.57) - have pitched a combined 54.1 innings, while compiling a 2.66 ERA. The starters have struck out 70, while dishing up a lone home run. Michael Byrne made just one start. Randy Wynne probably isn't sleeping well at this point.

Dayton's starting rotation - Spencer Stockton (0.00), Lyon Richardson (1.35), Noah Davis (2.70), Graham Ashcraft (3.00), Eduardo Salazar (3.00) and Ricky Salinas (21.60) - have pitched a combined 54.0 innings, while compiling a 2.83 ERA. 60 Ks and just 1 home run over that stretch. Spencer Stockton has made just one start. Ricky Salinas knows how Randy Wynne is feeling.

Daytona's starting rotation - Carson Spiers (0.84), James Proctor (1.00), Evan Kravetz (1.42), Case Williams (3.52), James Parker (3.60), Carson Rudd (4.50) and Christian Roa (9.00) - have pitched a combined 43.2 innings, registering a 2.29 ERA. 60 Ks and only 3 home runs. Carson Rudd made just one start. Christian Roa pitched the first inning on Opening Day, and hasn't made a start since.

The organization's totals for their starters: 202 IP, 2.54 ERA, 7 HR and 243 k.

    MORE MISCELLANEOUS:

The league is hitting just .065 versus Noah Davis, the Dragons starter tonight.

Miguel Hernandez, Dayton SS, went 0-9 over his first 2 starts. Since then he has hit .333 to go along with an .875 OPS.

Michael Siani, Dayton CF, was voted both Best Athlete and Best Defensive Outfielder. Curiously, he has been the DH in all 10 games that he has appeared in.

Dwight Smith, Jr. leads Louisville in both walks with 7, and strikeouts with 12. So, in spite of a .194 average, he has a respectable .342 OBP.

Louisville is tied for last in the league with just 2 Save Opportunities, of which they have converted just one.

Chattanoogas Mark Kolozsvary has hit safely in all 8 games in which he has appeared, including 5 multi-hit contests. He is OPSing 2.006 when facing a lefthander.

DAYTONA - Daytona jumps out to a 2-0 lead after one inning.

Our young pups, Callihan and Hinds both single to put runners on first and second. A throwing error plates them both.

DAYTON - Dayton scores a run in the top of the first without the benefit of a hit. Hurtubise reaches on an error. A wild pitch moves him along 90 feet. He then steals third base. A Brian Rey sac fly brings him home.

Noah Davis then proceeds to give that run back along with two more. Single, walk, single, hit by pitch and finally another single.

    Dragons trail 3-1.

DAYTON - The Dragons fell behind 5-0 as Noah Davis allowed two more runs in the third.

Dayton hitters put up a 2-spot of their own in the top of the 4th. Dayton trails 5-3.

With one away, Eric Yang singles for the second time tonight. Walks to McAfee and Cotton load up the bases. With two gone, Jose Tello singles home a pair.

DAYTONA - The Hammerheads cut the lead to with a solo shot by Victor Mesa, Jr. 2-1 Tortugas. Outside of that pitch to Mesa, Spiers has been pretty much in control - 5 IP, 1 ER, 0 BB, 7 K.

Names must be pretty expensive down in Cuba. Victor Mesa, Jr. has a brother named Victor Victor Mesa.

DAYTONA - Daytona gets that run back to make it 3-1.

Marrero strikes out but ends up first because the ball goes past the catcher. Wilfred Astudillo then singles to the third baseman. But Marrero is out at trying to reach third on the play. Astudillo rolls into second. Tyler then lines a single, his second hit on the night, and Astudillo shuffles over to third. Rece Hinds then strikes out on a wild pitch, allowing Astudillo to score.

Jupiter has a player named Osiris Johnson, which wins him the coveted Name of the Night Award.

LOUISVILLE - The Bats crash the scoreboard first with a run in the fourth. 1-0 Bats and counting.

Scott Heineman walks. He moves to second on a fielder's choice, steals third and crosses the plate as the catcher airmails the throw to third. Cheslor Cuthbert walks. Nick Delmonico walks. Alfredo Rodriguez singles to juice the bases. And then back-to-back Ks squelch that rally.

LOUISVILLE - Tony Santillan helps his own cause in the 5th. His single was followed by singles off the bats of Max Schrock and Dwight Smith, Jr. 2-0 Bats.

Santillan allows the first two to reach in the bottom of the 5th, and then wriggles out of trouble.

DAYTON - The Dragons take the lead in the top of the 6th. They now lead 6-5.

Siani singles to lead things off. Two ground balls later and Siani is standing on third. A Victor Ruiz walks has runners on the corners. Jacob Hurtibise singles home one run. And then Brian Rey doubles home a couple more. 3 RBI for Rey on the night.

LOUISVILLE - With one gone, Rodriguez singles (.371). TJ Friedl does the same. Nothing comes of the rally.

Santillan is back on the mound to start the bottom of the 6th.
