One thing I think is that this team's MO is that he's going to be this team's primary SS for at least 3 years no matter how much he hits. I think they'll bring him up, let him wow people with his glove and wait to see if he hits eventually. I'd guess Cozart stays until the deadline and Alf will get a chance after he's gone. I don't really think they view Peraza as a day in, day out SS. He can play there, but my guess is they don't want him their every day. Why blow the international budget on Alf if they think so? If Alf is really struggling maybe they give Peraza a couple of months at the end of 2017, but I think they will view it as a temporary situation. Kind of like Adelman in the rotation.
I am not disagreeing.. but it is an interesting situation, Suarez looks penciled in at 3b.. Now you have Peraza and Herra as middle infielders too.
My guess (which is not any better than yours).. They will play Peraza at SS and give Alf time. With Herrera to play 2b after BP is gone, and Peraza to hold down SS, there is no real reason to rush Alf now.

Honesty, the difference between Peraza or Alf starting at SS (suppose one reaches his ceiling and the other doesn't) is not likely to make a huge impact on the timeline of when we contend or not. I think they both have the potential to be average or slightly above average, but obviously, it is unlikely that either is an impact player. Of course, they could both end up being below average too.

I guess the point is.. I think acquiring Herrara may have changed the timeline/plan.
If Alf makes his debut at 24 or 27 years old, I guess it really doesn't make much of a difference. Sure, you'd love for him to be ready younger, but bottom line is we are looking at a glove guy that we hope will hit adequately.. Maybe waiting 3-4 years will let the Reds harvest more "good" years from Alf. I guess I don't see a reason to fast track Alf and let him learn on the job, although you are right, the Reds may disagree with me.
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob

...the 2-2 to Woodsen and here it comes...and it is swung on and missed! And Tom Browning has pitched a perfect game! Twenty-seven outs in a row, and he is being mobbed by his teammates, just to the thirdbase side of the mound.

The first thing they need to do is get AlfRod into the country. Where does that process stand?
