(Rare color) 1953 All-Star game (pre-game) at the wondrous Crosley Field in Cincinnati (great looks at the famous LF terrace) (part 1) from the @flagstafffilms historical baseball archive.

Rare color shot from Crosley Field during the 1949 season.

Notice how the terrace or the slope of the outfield raises ten feet to meet street/the wall level.

The scoreboard looks a lot smaller than when I attended games there in the 60's and the clock on top of it is different.

1955 is the first game I went to and I went a lot from 55 to 70. I remember the larger Longines clock that I think you also are thinking of. The picture also makes the scoreboard look like it's farther toward CF than it was, but I think it's just the angle.

<stolen>The Longines name was once conspicuously displayed above the analog clocks topping many scoreboards in stadiums, baseball parks and arenas, in the days before the time of day was kept digitally.</stolen>

Perhaps the greatest summer job in Cincinnati in the old days. Scoreboard operator. Young Tom Dyer operates the balls and strikes levers as Crosley Field head man Matty Schwab looks on. 1938.

Man, that picture with Willie Mays is so awesome. I wish I could turn back time and watch a few games in that era.

That photo in post #564 was the 1961 Pennant Winning Year. My earliest memories of Reds Baseball are from that long ago season when I was a little boy.

Attended my first game at Crosley Field in 1963, I was 9 years old

On 9/26/61, the Reds were on the verge of clinching the pennant.

By beating the Cubs that day, they only needed an LA loss in Pitt. that night.

The Reds left Chi. and arrived in Cincy with their fate still undecided.

As the final out of the LA loss was broadcast at Ft. Square, where a large crowd at gathered, a bus carrying players to the Hilton where some of them roomed arrived right on cue.

The fans stopped the bus, calling for the players to come out. They put Fred Hutchinson on their shoulders, and paraded him around the square.

My first game (and only as a child) was our Farm team (8-year olds) going to a Beavers' game in 1967. The most exciting thing for me was getting a Liberty Half Dollar (1932) in change (collected coins as a kid), so I couldn't spend it and had to settle for what I already got at the game with the dollar my Mom gave me. Lou Piniella, Ray Fosse and Richie Sheinblum were on that club.
