My favorite version of the Riverfront turf was the mid-90s "light green with the outline of a football field perpetually visible" version.

From a friend of mine... I did not know this:

“I volunteer at City Gospel Mission which is built on the Crosley Field site. Each time I am there I make it a point to step on first base which is embedded in the floor on the way to the cafeteria. Then I think of all the Hall of Fame players who stood there after base hits back in the day.”

    Re: Old Crosley Field Pictures

I am in the process of restoring a Crosley Field seat. This seat is the older style that were taken to the fairgrounds after 1970 and painted gray. My question for the experts is what was the original color of these seats. My research has shown people tend to restore them two different ways. The more popular way seems to be a forest green color while some restore them to more of a lighter green more closer to a teal color. I am in the sanding process and I can see this light green color all throughout the wood so that is the direction I am leaning. Pictures from this thread as well as additional research has been inconclusive. Any information from you experts or Reds fans who were blessed with being able to see Crosley first hand is greatly appreciated not only for my restoration but also my knowledge of the field.

The seats in the upper deck, we called them grandstand seats were dark green.

I have a set of (4) seats from Crosley Field. My Grandpa got them originally, gave them to my Dad and now they are mine. If anyone has any interest in them, let me know. They have no real value to me, since Crosley was gone before my time. Maybe someone else would enjoy them.

    Re: Old Crosley Field Pictures

Could the light green be due to the seats having faded in the sun, and maybe they were originally painted dark green?
Eric Stratton, Rush Chairman. Damn glad to meet ya.

This is what I originally thought but the paint was in many crevices that I doubt saw much sunlight if any at all. I have found a few pictures where this light green color is covering the walkways in the upper deck as well as some awning at the top of the stadium. I am now thinking since this is an aisle seat maybe this paint got onto the seats and then they were repainted the dark green.

I’ve undertaken the same project although it’s been taking me awhile. I settled on dark green after doing a lot of internet research. After sanding off paint I also found the original seat number on the top wooden seat back.

My barber has a few Crosley Field seats for waiting customers. They are painted an orangey-red but I have no idea if they’ve been reconditioned or repainted. Judging from how they look, I don’t think anything has been done to them for 50 years. They are also not very comfortable for my fat ass.
