    Cover Songs: best and worst

I did a search, could not find a similiar thread to this here.

    1. What cover songs do you thing were better than the original.
    2. What are some of the worst cover songs.

    For me:

    Better than the original:
    Foo Fighter's doing "Baker Street"
    Wolf Alice doing "Wicked Game"
Company of Thieves doing "Hard to Explain"

    Worst:
    Smashing Pumpkins doing "Landslide"
There was another cover where the lady sounded like Marge singing, I can not remember the group and song though.
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob

    At least as good, IMO.

I don't know if this counts as an exact cover, but I like "Changes" by 2Pac more than the original "The Way It Is" by Bruce Hornsby and the Range.

Some others than come to mind:

Killing Me Softly, Fugees (Roberta Flack)
I Will Always Love You, Whitney Houston (Dolly Parton)
With a Little Help From My Friends, Joe Cocker (The Beatles)
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Its a difference of style and audience. I love both versions but its like trying to compare Turn the Page by Bob Seager and Metallica. Both songs are awesome but I personally like Bob Seager version more. Others would say that Metallica rocked the *()# out of it.

Uncle Kracker Drift Away immediately comes to mind for me.

I loved Cash's Hurt. It's fantastic, and it's in the new Logan Trailer. (watch it)

Big fan of the Bangles cover of Hazy Shade of Winter.

I don't know that I would say it's better, but the The Flaming Lips cover of Neil Young's "After the Gold Rush" is great. As is Mercury Rev's cover of Young's "Vampire Blues." I suppose it's a testament to Young's ability as a songwriter.

Baseclogger, there's something wrong with your keyboard. When you typed "worst" it came out "best". I have actually had trouble listening to the original since hearing the Limp Biscuit version.

As far as best covers, I like the violin use in CVB's version of "Pictures of Matchstick Men". Lorde's "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" is interesting as well. And Kasey Chambers' "Better be Home Soon". And while I wouldn't say it was better, The Civil Wars cover of "Disarm" was interesting.

Would mentioning The Animals "Don't Let Me be Misunderstood" not be fair, since most probably think their version was the original? Okay, then, Nina Simone's cover was fantastic, and she even managed to do it first.
