There's a place on the board to discuss that, if you wish. This ain't it.

    ?

It was a sarcastic quip directed at last year's hashtag.

For anyone who has dealt with relatives going through dimentia or Alzheimer's . Still Alice can be hard to watch.

I liked LaLa Land even more than Manchester, but it's definitely a musical. If you don't one musicals, I can't promise you'll like it.

Wanna see Hell or High Water
Still Alice was depressing as can be, I knew that going in, and knew what to expect. I think Julianne Moore is very talented and it was a library dvd.

Not a big fan of musicals, I watch enough Disney musicals as it is!

I may check out Manchester by The Sea, but its one of those things, I would rather see a senseless comedy that makes me laugh, that a movie that is intense.

Arrival is really great and I think Villeneuve should win Best Director but I imagine it will be Chazelle, which I'm fine with because I loved La La Land too. I would go the same way with Best Picture, I prefer Arrival but am fine with La La Land winning. I would just say that simply putting Arrival in the category of "Space Movie" is really selling it short.

My in-laws saw Manchester by the Sea and said it is a really well made and good movie, but it is so depressing it is not worth watching. They both said they wish they had not seen it.

To me, a huge sci fi nerd, Arrival is not even remotely close to a "space movie." It's part of the reason I was somewhat disappointed.

Yeah, re-reading my post it came across different than I wanted. I didn't mean to put down "space movies" or sci-fi, I love those movies, just meant "Arrival" isn't really one. Where I differ from you is that I wasn't disappointed but I also knew going in that it wasn't what it appeared to be from the trailer.

Yeah, we all understood that. This isn't the place for sarcastic quips about things like that.

    Re: 2017 Oscars

I watched the end until La La Land won. In middle of first acceptance speech I turned it off. Went to computer and got pop-up news notification that La La Land wins Best Picture. Couple minutes later I get pop-up news notification that Moonlight wins Best Picture. I'm like "WTH?".

I have not seen any of them. My guess is I'll like (not love) La La Land, like Lion, really like Hacksaw Ridge, like Hidden Figures, be so-so on Hell or High Water and Fences, be disappointed in Arrival because it looked good in previews, and hate (and never finish) Manchester and Moonlight.

I wonder how many people that happened to. I mean it was 1215 on the east coast when that happened, I'm sure there are a ton of people that saw it announced and turned it off and went to bed.

My guess is you'll like Hell or High Water because it is awesome. Arrival is certainly not going to be what you expect it to be, but it was my personal favorite last year.

Saw Manchester, and as Oscar bait, it did its job. That's about the best thing I can say about it. It's just a really flat movie.

My dad got to enjoy 3 Reds World Championships by the time he was my age. So far, I've only gotten to enjoy one. Step it up Redlegs!
