Great win in the first game with Bronson and Feldman coming up. If we could sneak one of those...

Very impressive debut by Garrett. Pounded the zone, worked fast. Came inside with his fastball very effectively on righties. You can see the kid knows how to compete. Elite athlete plus high-level second-sport background on a big stage is a great foundation.

Really appreciated what Welsh said in the postgame about last night being a victory for the organization -- the drafting/signing guys, the pitching coaches in the minors -- all those people who invested time and energy into Garrett along the way. It took patience and coaching, and they did a great job of turning a phenomenal athlete into a promising major league starter. Lion's share of the credit goes to the player himself, of course, but the organization should also take a bow.

The Cardinals announcers were saying that they didn't remember him throwing so hard (98mph FB). They were impressed. That's what moving a guy into the pen will do. Juiced guns might have something to do with it too but I don't know. His pitches looked fast AND they had great movement. That's what sets him apart from other guys like JJ hoover and Jumbo. JJ and Jumbo could hit the cornes and still get pounded cause their pitches were so straight. How many times did we hear Welsh say something like "Hoover made a good pitch there but the hitter went down and got it..."?
