The dude has had at least two back surgeries. Very common for people with pain issues to end up with med issues. No idea if that happened here but isn't the NFL having a discussion on allowing cannabis for pain mitigation.

I think Goodell said recently that isn't happening anytime in the near future. I'm guessing he's concerned about the legality of it in the states that haven't legalized it.

My wife had back surgery 4 years ago. Although it has allowed her to have a somewhat normal life with mobility, she has experienced major pain since. She's used every conceivable pain reducing medication, heat patches, topical lotions, etc, etc.
If this is the situation Lamb is in, I feel for him. If it's not, well, he's got another problem.

Ive been dealing with some really painful back problems for a couple of years now. I wish I could do some self medication with a certain recreational substance to help, but my employer randomly tests, so, can't risk it. With that said, people that have not experienced back problems have no clue what it's like. There are days where I feel like I am going to break in half and/or can't walk. I threw it out 10 days ago and am just now starting to feel better. I feel for Lamb, brutal way to end a career.

My wife doesn't take it very seriously and thinks it's like having a minor headache or something. Like it's just a minor inconvenience/annoyance. Nope.

    Lol

I'm hoping we'll actually get some bang for our buck from the Cueto trade. Finnegan is still really young and was looking like going back to the second half of last year that he was starting to get it. I'm not giving up on Reed although I am concerned. Some guys never do conquer the mental aspect of the game no matter the talent.

Just watching Lamb he always kind of rubbed me the wrong way. I suppose that was largely colored by the fact that he generally pitched poorly. But it was compounded by the fact that his body language and mannerisms also screamed out to me as a guy who was just out there going through the motions. That can be deceptive if a guy is really good and we call them even keeled or silent assassins. With Lamb it was more like, "Hey dork, you're getting shelled again and so the stoned California dude look isn't helping me like you."

I'm pro legalization for just about all drugs, especially pot. But I don't have a lot of patience for elite athletes who know they will be tested who put their careers at risk over it. It's just not a good look.

The good news is that Lamb gets 50 days to focus on his other job as guitarist/vocalist for corporate arenarock supergroup, Styx.

It's not just a legality issue (law).... If you owned and operated a business, where the issue of liability is involved - especially when it comes to your other employees- the issues of safety, as well as guaranteeing the quality of the product you're producing for your customers - I wouldn't want someone installing the brakes, tires, or whatever, on my Honda higher then a kite (LOL).

IMO, business owners, and that includes owners of professional sports franchises who pay their employees millions of dollars, have a right to set guidelines/rules, and demand that their employees are not impaired and able to perform at their highest level (no pun intended)

These athletes know the rules, know what's expected of them. They flaunt that, I really have no sympathy for them.

Re: Former Red John Lamb suspended 50 games for 2nd positive drug-of-abuse test

I think MLB players engage in activities all the time that put their teammates' and employers' goals at much more significant risk than Lamb did when he enjoyed his "drug of abuse." (Yes, I'm looking squarely at you, Mr Bumgarner). My issue as an employer is what it says about an employee who knows he's going to be tested, knows there are significant consequences if he gets caught, but he does it anyway. It shows that (at best) poor judgement, or worse a lack of priority on one's craft, or worse that he's an addict.

On a personal note, my employer (a specialty construction contractor) tests randomly. I could of be tested at any time without cause or suspicion if my name is drawn in the lottery (Yes, despite what you've heard about Colorado, many employers still do this) even though I work in the legal department and thus am not a "safety" risk if I theoretically got high a month ago. I don't like this policy. But I like my job and want to keep working here, so I comply. If I didn't comply and tested positive , knowing full well that the policy exists, my employer would have every right to question my level of commitment and judgment.

As someone that has spent a lot of time in American auto factories and the son of a assembly worker at one, you are surrounded by vehicles assembled by high and drunk people.

You work at GM, right? Guessing you have some stories, haha.
